Air suspension compressor running all time and very noisy.

Hi as well as problems I'm having with cats on my SC, I've also noted that the compressor is practically going constantly, ie noting it going everytime I'm sitting in traffic etc

It's also very noisy

My local LR dealer has said it's probably on way out, for record a brand new one was fitted in dec 2011 and car has done 17000 miles since then

My question is: does it need replaced and if so who's cheapest to get one from?

Tigerdon, see here...http://www.rrsport.co.uk/gallery/albums/userpics/10097/SB034_SB036%20Vehicle%20Enhancement%20Program.pdf

When you had the compressor replaced in 2011, did they also do the software upgrade ? - its a known fault for certain VIN vehicles around the age of yours. Mine is a similar age SC and had the same problem.

Good luck. Carl

That bulletin is now 7 years old. I would be VERY surprised if any cars "slipped through" without having had the remedial work carried out.

Regardless, in this case the compressor has already been replaced.

I would be checking for air leaks, especially around the air reservoir, and dryer unit. Both common issues.
While the cover is off, check the aluminium bracket closely. The are very guilty for corroding away around the mounting points that hold it onto the chassis rail.

If the bracket is OK, and you are happy there are no air leaks in the system, then suspect the compressor Thumbs Up

Ok guys took truck to LR and was advised the following

AFTER A DAIGNOSTIC CHECK WE FOUND THE FOLLOWING REPAIRS NEEDED

AIR SUSPENSION FAULT
COMPRESSOR RUNNING ALL THE TIME
THIS MAY BE AN AIR LEAK BUT WE NEED TO REPLACE THE COMPRESSOR FIRST

PART COST
COMPRESSOR £494.21
PIPES £40.85

LABOUR £180.00

So I replaced the compressor at my local LR specialist

Guess what still the compressor is coming on quite regularly

How do I know if I've a air leak and just wasted another £550?

This is one of those situations where the garage shouldn't be allowed to charge you if they don't fix the issue. Just changing a part and hoping it solves the problems is just poor service. If they change something and it doesn't fix the issue then why should the customer pay? 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

It's not uncommon to have the relay stick, so the compressor runs constantly; did the dealer check it?

Mines in at the moment with similar problems and the garage are checking it for air leaks, sensor/relay failures and electrics BEFORE assuming its the compressor. If its working all the time, it isn't faulty. Faulty is when it don't work at all. PS, mine is overheating  RR Sport Supercharged Vesuvius Orange 4.2 V8 First edition
