Factory iPod Kit Problems

Hi all, I have the factory fitted iPod cradle with usb connectors in the glovebox and cradle at the side of the steering wheel. I think this kit is now updated to VPLFE0002, but mine is the same principal.

We had some issues with battery drain overnight on the RRS and eventually after being in the dealers for a week, it turned out to be the iPod kit at fault. LR would not replace under warranty (long story) so removed the brain box of the ipod kit and so I am left with a vehicle that has the wiring harness and cradle but no brain box that will allow me to use it.

Has anybody else had this issue?

My plan is to have an in-line switch hidden somewhere on the car to allow me to isolate the brain box power whenever I turn the car off. Bit of a faf but it will be cheaper than a new kit - would this work? Thanks.
