I agree most of the claims and technologies fitted to things like Toyotas are not as good as they claim (look at the footprint and damage done mining and shipping batteries) and im not an eco person...but increased MPG and decreased emissions have to be a good thing if nothing else to shut up those stupid environmental groups Mike

The real issue is whether the hybrids are actually as good as is claimed. For a start, the official figures are taken with the battery at full charge which is an unlikely scenario. Then one must question whether the added mass of batteries, motors, cooling and control systems are offset by the system's performance. Hauling 200kg+ of extra mass around the place seems a bit perverse to me.

I agree, something that recharged a system and some other fuel source technologies would also be good - equally performance engines, delivering the same power for significant mpg and emissions savings without all the battery stuff.
