Re: Three Peaks Challenge

Hi Guys,

I'm off to Scotland in the morning in preparation for the Three Peaks 24 hours challenge on Saturday (i.e. Ben Nevis, Scafell and Snowdon in 24 hours) - did it 4 years ago (23hrs 20mins) and vowed to never do it again - how quickly the mind lets you forget things eh? Shocked

Kaine

Thumbs Up Excellent stuff - did it several years ago - I was fit then Sad - Started in Scotland, set off up Ben Nevis about 5pm - up/down befor 9pm and away en route for the Lakes - I remember setting off in the dark up Scafell......... it is such a boring place....... then it was off to Wales & Snowdon - I know this lump like the back of my hand - needless to say we ran up/down & completed the challenge in just over 21hrs - sat in the car park on a day like today sweatting buckets but drinking Champagne by the gallon Wink

So much is traffic dependant & the ease at which you can get from peak to peak.

GOOD LUCK

Ps i'm off to find a bar selling extra cold beer all weekend Wink

I've also done it too. It's not the ups and downs that are the problem but the sitting still in between while you travel is real agony Exclamation
Scafell is so boring in the dark.

But I think its time some other peaks were used as Scafell is getting badly eroded plus the locals are fed up with the noise at night.

Hope it went well Exclamation TDV6 - gone

OUCH Crying or Very sad

Cheers for the posts guys.

Well I finished in 23hours 55minutes - phew!!!

Climb times:
Ben Nevis - 4hours 8mins
Scafell - 3hours 10mins
Snowdon - 3hours 15mins

drive time was 11 hours, so could have completed in under 22hours, however two of the guys really scruggled coming down - e.g they did Ben in 5 hours 5 mins. As it was a team event, we kept together and got everyone inside the 24 hours - just Smile

Re: Scafell - personally I feel Scafell is the hardest of the lot due to the underfoot condition and relentless climb. Apart from the last section from the Pyg Track up onto the main Llanberis route, Snowdon doesn't seem half as bad (plus the climb is actually smaller for Snowdon due to the higher starting point).

Now I just need 2 weeks to recover

BTW, we did a small charity collection for Breakthrough Breast Cancer - raised just under £2k.

Cheers - now I need some more sleep

Kaine
