Sounds like one or more of your calipers are seizing up or your pads are sticking when was the last time you had your brakes looked at.

Jimbo, listen to flack. These are heavy cars and they demand a lot from their brakes. It may cost you a few quid but I would go along to a good indy, give him the car for a couple of days and have the brakes, discs, ads, fluid all looked at or changed. Money well spent, especially if you haven't had the car from new and you don't know how its been treated. Gone - 2008 Stornoway Grey RRS 2.7 TDV6

These cars had a recall re brakes. Even though mine had been done before I bought it the brakes failed on me a couple of times. The fix was to pump the brake pedal rather than just push harder. It appears there are 2 steps to this recall. Mine had the first and needed the second.
