PDC Beeps

First of all Hi everyone.

I don't know if its only me but sometimes my PDC makes beeps at absolutly nothing. The PDC beeps when i stop at a light or to pull into my driveway. It happenes with or without other cars at the traffic light. I have stopped in the middle lane at a light at night and it beeped every few seconds infequently. I was wondering if this was normal or i had a problem. It's happens frequently about 20% of all stops.

Thanks

I believe that whenever your speed drops below 20MPH then the park distance takes over (front). When you put in in reverse the rear distance ones are also activated. The front and rear also have different tones. 2006 RRS HSE, Chawton White, Alpaca with Cherry Wood Trim (Luxury Interior Pkg)

My problem is that they beep when nothing is around the car. It gets quite annoying after a while.

I think the beep is just is acknowledge that the system is active. 2006 RRS HSE, Chawton White, Alpaca with Cherry Wood Trim (Luxury Interior Pkg)

No its like multiple beeps at random times. It can happen just after stopping or a few seconds later.

I agree that the PDC is pretty flawed. I get false beeps frequently -- for example, if I'm taking a tight turn at low speed in heavy rain, it beeps like crazy. I asked my dealer about the condition and the reply was "well, it's better that it's too sensitive than not sensitive enough". I guess that's true, but after a while I feel that the system "cries wolf", and I have a tendency of dismissing it at times. At some point, it may report a real obstruction, and I'll ignore it and pay the price. It IS handy when needing to back into tight spots, but it's not trustworthy when it comes to "unexpected obstructions" -- it's just too touchy and unpredictable in its feedback. -QM

Zipperman,

I get them too, especially when braking down to a slower speed.

I had front and rear PDC units on my M5, I think they are the same ones they fit to the RR and RRS, they certainly look the same.

Once or twice I did get mystery beeps as I drove off down the road but then it would stop. It may be worth having the system checked by the dealer as a faulty sensor can easily play havoc with them, and they are cheap units to replace, but of course it will all be done under warranty. L319 D4 HSE
