Why the British obsession with 'Low Mileage', especially if you just want a cheap hack for the missus??? Rolling Eyes

I look upon it, if its high mileage, then chances are that someone else has had the best out of it, and if its low mileage hopefully there's a good chance that i might get the best out of it. Wink As with most things mechanical, they usually get worse the older they get.

I see your logic...

...and raise you. Wink

Back in the 70s, that was very true but these days, the bodies & chassis rot away before the drive train gets end-of-life. Properly serviced, most engines are good for >250,000. In fact, I'd suggest the engines fitted to the RRS are probably capable of >400,000...

It's a very British thing to get hung up on the mileage of a car.

There is also the viewpoint that, (especially with Land Rovers...), that something with a few more miles on will have had any problems already ironed out... What that mileage might be I don't know but mine had 70k when I bought it and the extensive history file showed that it had had a lot of warranty and rectification work done up to about 40k ish miles...

Have you seen the number of engine failures on here recently that have been properly serviced and havn't even reached 100k Whistle I agree with you, they should last 400k + and maybe some of them have, but we only get to hear about the ones that fail.... Mitsubishi now give a 5 year or 125000 mile warranty with their L200 pickups so why can't others follow Question

With my buyers hat on, I've been spoilt for choice with cars in budget with around 70k on. For me that's too high purely on re-sale. The way I see it, I want to own this for a few years and don't want to lose a load of value when it hits the magic 100k. My original idea was the same as the OP, less than 70k, £16-18k. Loads at that price, but independant garages and private sales and I just didn't want the risk!

All round decided to go for a 44k 2007 from Hunters which was up at £23,800. 12 month warranty from the approved scheme. It then has 12 months to show its true colours!
