VUB502440 - Fitting a Driving/Fog Lamp Kit to 2005 Sport HSE

Hi all,

I received my complete driving/fog light upgrade kit this morning and have spent my coffee break checking the parts and reading the instructions - just like a big Lego kit really except for cutting the bumper Thumbs Up

I do have one question that I hope someone can answer.

Step 135, close to the end, shows the vehicle linked to a computer to do *something* - Does the on-board computer settings have to be changed for these lights to work (I can't see why) or is this to enable CANbus monitoring of the lights?

(Side question, I've only had one brake light blow since getting the car but the car didn't detect it. How many brake lights must be faulty to warn the driver or doesn't the car do that at all? In which case, what does the CANbus do for the lights?).

Thanks in advance!

'tang.

Ok, so I've answered my own question.

For anyone else that wants to know, the wiring diagram that comes with the kit only shows connections to the P101 passenger compartment fuse-box - nothing actually inside the "dotted box" on the diagram.

However, if you look at the complete car wiring diagram (that you can find in PDF format with some hunting on the web) then you see that C0580-13 and C0584-23 are actually wired to the AUX DRIVE LAMP INPUT and AUX DRIVE LAMP OUTPUT pins on the D162 module.

In hindsight it's pretty obvious. If -13 was wired directly to -23 in the fuse box then the driving lights could be turned on at any time even with the key removed so it *had* to be through the ECU at some point to limit them to being on with the main beam. Doh!

Right, time ring around some stealers to see what the damage will be for a tiny reprogram job. Shocked

If it needs enabling, I can do it at considerably lower costs than LR dealer.

But ISTR that you just plug in, make sure you have the right light switch and away you go.... Bodsys Brake Bible
