LR Approved Extended Warranty

Extended the warranty on my RRS 10 months ago when the initial 3 year warranty ran out. Since then the only expenses on the car had been wear & tear related. Been wondering what to do this year: renew it, go for Warranty Direct/Warranty Wise/AA or take a chance without any warranty as the car has been very reliable and never let me down.

It went in for service/MoT on Monday and passed. However, the few problems I had reported and the dealer's health checks resulted in £2k worth of parts & labour being quoted to put it right Shocked I informed them about the warranty. They came back to me later saying the company will send an engineer out to inspect it due to the total cost of the claim. Got a call today and every item has been approved Smile As painless and hassle-free as you would expect Thumbs Up

The issues are:
1. CD player/radio unit doesn't play discs anymore. Needs to be replaced.
2. Suspension drop links. Little bit of noise when going over uneven surfaces.
3. Noisy EPB motor. Very slightly more pronounced than normal when applying or releasing parking brake.

The car comes back on Friday so will know if all the niggles are gone. Feedback on the dealership pending until then but so far they've been superb.

Out of interest, how much did it cost to extend the warranty with Land Rover? Mine is still in its 3 year warranty until September & I'm looking to extend it.
Someone told me that Land Rover will write to me nearer the time & may offer a deal. I'm in the shed, I'll be back in the real world in a minute.

I didn't get a discount when I tried. Was told the price was fixed. Paid just over £1,000 including LR Assistance for 1 year. I know the price went up a few days after I bought my warranty so £1,900 for 3 years is a great price even if it doesn't include LRA.

£1900 for 3 years! worth every penny you don't need many problems in 3 years to rack up equivalent in repair costs. I have had 2 non LR warrantys & have found to my expense they are crap. Get the warranty specific to a land rover as these have some specialised parts that are not covered on standard policys.

If you go for a non LR warranty get them to record your enquiry conversation & get a copy & be very specific to get answers to what is covered they will wriggle out of anything if they have a chance.

£1160 for 12 months now. This has been covered in another thread about buying a TDV8. All extended warrantees are much the same but AA gold and LR are probably the best. As already said, LR small print says maximum claim is £3000 per claim but unlimited number of claims to the value of the car in the year. Doesn't cover much and certainly not a turbo or engine failure but along with warrantee, LR are for more likely to offer assistance with a LR warrantee than without it.
Am thinking of taking one out to cover what's left of mine that hasn't been replaced this sitting. Not sure which way to go Big Cry 2x TDV6. SE and HSE. Both returned to sender with issues👀
TDV8 Sport HSE...... Gone. Loved it but it didn't love me!!
Now rolling in MY10 Fullfat TDV8 Vogue. Slammed it to go round corners🙈
Cruising daily #56 mph in a Volvo V8. 😱
Lots of other toys in the cupboard...😜

There are 2 types:

1) "Approved Extended" for cars 3-5 years old or up to 75,000 miles. Claim limit up to the value of the car. Covers pretty much everything except wear & tear.
2) "Select Extended" for cars 5-10 years old or up to 100,000 miles. Single claim limit £3,000. Considerably more exclusions than "Approved" in addition to wear & tear.

As both require 150 point inspection prior to inception by a LR dealer, or a pre sale inspection in the case of a car sold by a dealer, at a cost to the buyer it kind of takes the pee just a bit. 2x TDV6. SE and HSE. Both returned to sender with issues👀

Agreed. That's why I didn't let it go out of warranty and extended before it ran out, in which case no inspection is required, hence no additional cost Thumbs Up

Yes, if you take the warrantly out before the manufacturers warranty expires then you may not require an inspection. I took out the extended warranty a few months back and completed the purchase online. I have never been asked to have an inspection and have already had 2 rather lengthy warranty visits covered.

I just take my vehicle to the local dealer and have the warrantly work completed. All invoicing, payments etc are dealt with by the dealer, it's just like having the manufacturers warranty (except you're paying for it).

On the subject of cost, it was about the same price as other independant warranties that offered less cover for this model.

My advice, take out the approved LR warranty online and pay monthly at no extra cost, (dealers cannot offer this option). RRS TDV8 MY2010 Stornoway Grey

I also bought online and pay monthly. The downside of paying monthly is that you can't transfer the warranty to the new owner when you sell the car but you can transfer if paid upfront. Could mean a lost incentive for some buyers. The upside is it might be possible to cancel the direct debit and stop paying for it when you sell the car. Not sure if they treat it as an annual contract and will come after you to collect the remaining installments.

I think in the case of selling the vehicle you could keep paying the monthly installments to give the new owner the remainder of the extended warranty. You would have paid it anyway if it was paid upfront. It could be used as an incentive still for buying if you agree to continue the warranty payments. The new owner should then be able to renew the warrantly under their name.

I also agree that you could stop the warrantly early, almost making it a pay as you go warrantly. I guess they wouldn't come after you, what are they going to do - take you to court? RRS TDV8 MY2010 Stornoway Grey

^^ I doubt they would take you to court, more likely just stop warranting the vehicle obviously. Just mentioned it as it was something I wasn't able to clarify at the time. Wasn't bothered too much as I wasn't planning to sell the car. Certainly not important enough to affect the decision.

I was just about to get extended warranty as well even though I still got 17m factory warranty to go. Maybe I should take consideration of 3 years option? 2012 Range Rover Sport 3.0 TDV6 Autobiography Sumatra Black
