2007 Range Rover Sport 3.0 TDV6 SE Bonatti Grey
Hi guys just saying hello

Hello everyone

Just wanted to say hello and introduce myself to the forum. I'm 51 which probably makes me one of the old farts here and very late in life to be owning my first Sport. Always loved the Range Rovers from the very first classics in the seventies and I swore that one day I'd have one when I could afford one. 31 years of having company cars meant I never had the imperative to actually get one so I would just look at them with envious eyes as they passed me on the road.

Well in 2011 I was diagnosed with Pancreatic and Liver cancer and given a few months to live so once I'd ensured my wife's finances were going to be sorted when I finally shuffle off, I decided I would blow around twenty grand on a Range Rover Sport. Ideally I wanted a white one with the SC V8 engine maybe an Overfinch or Autobiography but the main thing was I needed a reliable car with low mileage and no earlier than a 2007 car. With that in mind I have no idea why I ended up with a Stornoway 3 litre diesel V6 SE LOL.

I saw this beauty online at a not to distant RR specialist at 21 grand with 56000 on the clock and just one owner. So went down and drove it and just fell in love with it. I got the dealer to tint the windows, and fit side steps and do the engine remap which he agreed to do and with six months tax and warranty, twelve months MOT it cost me just over 21,000 I think it was a good price but I bet you lot will soon tell me if I paid too much LOL. The dealer called me the day before I collected it to say the 300 quid I'd agreed to pay for the remap didn't need spending as the car had already been done. I thought this was really decent of him as he could easily have taken the cash for it. It also had the Harman Kardon stereo fitted which sounds fantastic

I'm getting a full service this week or so with brake fluid and auto box flush and new fluid, and I reckon at 60,000 miles now I'm going to get them to do the belts while its in there. It should be sorted until the years end if I do that lot now I hope. I just love the car and wish I'd had one years ago, but I do sometimes wish I'd gone for a higher spec car, maybe a HSE or Autobiography but they were all much ore money and higher mileage older cars so in the long run I hope I've bought a good reliable car.

Is there anything I can do easily to increase the spec without having to throw everything away? Like maybe putting an Autobiography interior in it or something, would the existing wiring loom accommodate the higher spec interior?.

Anyhow guys I've learnt loads from here already and in some ways wish I'd found the site before I splashed the cash, but lets hope the car I bought proves to be a good one

Very humbling post indeed, i do hope you enjoy your new car.
I know materiel things dont help in difficult times, but it is nice to have toys as a distraction, i do hope you manage to enjoy the car and of course your family (more importantly) for some time to come yet.

Hi Karlos,

Firstly welcome to the forum, but more importantly I think it's fantastic that you've not listened to the docs in 2011 Thumbs Up

Don't get too hung up on spec, the extra few gadgets don't really make much difference, if you've got a good one with a decent history that's far more important.

Enjoy your sport & get some pics up Thumbs Up

Good on ya mate!
Just bought my first RRS today myself - 2005 2.7d HSE, with massive brand new 22" hawke wheels.
Yes, it's a 2005, but it's had loads done on it, all LR service history and belts just done plus warranty and I'm so happy!
Sounds like you are too, all the best! Very Happy Io sono un pilota Italiano in Inghilterra!
