Very nice Adam!

Bike rack and tow bar was expensive but it is a top quality piece of kit.

Wouldn't want to have to lift bike onto roof!

29ers are great, definitely not just a gimic.

United Kingdom 2006 Range Rover Sport Supercharged HST Java Black

thats a nice bike that my mate has a whyte and he loves it and youll find you can do all but the most extreme downhills on it without it been a dedicated down hill. the susspension on mine has a thing where if you land to heavy it will blow past the seals or something to avoid massive damage. (or so the bloke told me as im quite a heavy bloke so thats what i was worried about)

i do tend to open the sunroof blind when ive got anything on the roof to remind me stuff up there as it is quite high, (should really take me saddle off for it)

That rack does look the business to be fair. Think I am still going to get a van though to be honest, just handy for my situation at the moment, throw the bikes in with ease, not having to be paranoid about them falling off the outside, somewhere to get changed inside the van, and not being anal about getting the inside of it dirty and muddy Laughing

I've not tried a 29 but I'm going with "stick to what know best" having only used 26's and even 24's in the past, being only 5 foot 9 or so high as well I think I'd prefer the lower centre of gravity on the 26's.

I see you are only in Manchester which isn't too far away, got any good tips for places to ride? I've only done Llandegla once in the past few years.

edit:-

That's what swing me towards the Whyte chilly, having done a bit of downhill in the past I would still give it a bash, but wanted something that could ride up the hills as well this time around, as I got bored of pushing 45 mins up hill for the sake of riding down for 5 mins.

Good idea with the sun blind also Smile Current: 06 RR Sport HSE TDV6, Bonatti grey, black leather. Defender 90 pick up. Vito 110cdi

Some great places to ride within 30 mins drive or so, I've done Hebden Bridge, Burnley and Leigh Quarry Rawtenstall lately

Haigh Hall near Wigan also good

I'll no doubt be giving those places a try at some point this year Johnny Cool Luckily not too far from North Wales where there's tons of decent trails apparently.

Went the shop yesterday to check it out and have a little go, put some money down on it and they're gonna do a few bits ready for when I go and collect it, throw some better pedals on, set the suspension for my weight, ditch the reflectors Laughing

Well, having been road riding for a couple of years, my friends managed to convince me to get into MTB'ing as well.

I borrowed a friends Cannondale Scalpel before Christmas and went to Bike Park Wales and Afan to ride 'The Wall' - those who know, - know Wink

Long story short, I loved it and have today just ordered myself a MTB Cool

I convinced myself that it was too good an offer to pass up on and have bought a (soon to be discontinued) Cannondale Jekyll 3 that's online with 50% off. Didn't seem bad at all when you consider that the front forks alone cost nearly £600 to buy online and are £700 in most shops.

Will post some pictures up when I get it, but for now, I only have the stock photo which looks like this Cool

Hi Guys

If i'm not in my Defender getting muddy i'm on my bike getting muddy.

I have:

Norco Sight Killer B1 650b
Santa Cruz Nomad - All Mountain spec'd

I've done Afan many times, along with all of the 7Stanes in Scotland.

Every year we also do the Alps, either French or Swiss...

My "normal" ride is Swinley Woods in Bracknell. If there are any locals to Bracknell who want to meet up drop me a line.....

I love my orange pro, I spend a lot of time on the 7 stances and Golspie which is my favourite.
With my first sport

And then on my old x5, the two bar and Thule carriers are the way forward

@ JonWitts - lovely Santa Cruz there Cool something about them I really like.

@ Zilch - yes, I've had a bike rack for a while, got myself a Thule 3 bike G2 923 Euroway, great piece of kit, very sturdy too loaded with 3 bikes. On the bike, I nearly went for a 650B size as I think that's where most bike manufacturers will end up as I can't see them maintaining 3 sizes for too long, but the price if he Jekyll was too good to ignore. Rode a few 29'ers but they just seems a little to big, made lite work of some trails though. ON THE WAY: BMW F21 M140i
