Service Plan - is it worth it?

Good evening all, first time RRS owner here.

Well, I will be tomorrow at 2pm when I pick up my 2013 HSE Black.

I have been toying with taking out a service plan offered by the dealer but as I've never owned a RR before, do not know if it represents good value.

I have been quoted £1350 for 3 services. After looking here and on line (including maindealerservicing) seems a tiny bit steep.

Before I go and collect, I'd appreciate your views if only to give me an idea by how much to haggle.

Thanks in advance,

Richard.

I was offered a 3 year service plan from Stratstones for around the same price you have been quoted. I haggled them down to £800............ Whistle

Hi Jim,

WOW that's a great discount or it shows that it was OTT in the first place. I was thinking around £1000 but your success has given me a target to aim for. I'm sure the salesman told me the first service was about £280 so doing the maths the £1350 did raise an eyebrow.

We'll see if I'm any good at negotiating! I did get a deal I was happy with on the car.

Thanks for replying,

Richard.

1st service can be done for £180 at a decent indy.
2nd service is around £250-£300
3rd service is around £200

Thumbs Up

But does that do anything to the warranty?

I had to admit that regardless of vehicle, I'm a sucker for the main dealer receipts Embarassed

Thanks for the comparison.

Nope, does not affect warranty, as long as the servicing is done using genuine parts, and to LR's schedule (which any decent indy should have)

A main dealer receipt is basically a licence to print money Rolling Eyes

Ive just had my first service done on my 2012 SDV6. Haggled it down from £440 to £385 which included free courtesy car (they tried to charge me £12 to cover insurance) i was then offered a service plan for the next two services which included tyre insurance puncture repair only, free mot at 3 year old, 10% discount on all parts & accessories supplied and fitted, the initial price was £917.00 intrest free, i haggled like a true yorkshireman does Laughing and got it down to £850.00 baring in mind they quoted me £640 for the 2nd service and £440 for the 3rd service + mot fee, thats before any haggling mind you. Wink I would never take a 60k + motor to an indi just to save a few £££'s at lease you know the dealer will give your motor all the updates thats required that an indi may not know are available or required. Thats just my take on the matter though. Wink

Quick update on the resolution.

Got 3 services down to £1150 which was £57 more expensive than my nearest reputable independent RCV. On this basis I will be sticking with main dealer stamps.

Hats off to the barter king on achieving £800. 2013 (13.5MY) RRS HSE Black | Causeway Grey | Privacy | Ivory & Ebony | Grand Black Lacquer | Style 7 Alloys | AWESOME

^^^^ Jim may of haggled it down to £800 but we are talking slackstones who are well known for cutting corners and not really knowing what they are doing, so you have to wonder how they get it to that price and what they might be missing off the service schedule. Whistle

I have it on good authority, that Stratstones do not always use genuine parts on their servicing...
They also do not use genuine parts when doing their cambelts, as they have lead many people to believe...

Bear that in mind Whistle

In warranty - whilst an Independent can do it (and might do it better), i would (and do) take it to the main dealer - they do have access to things etc the majority (even good) independents dont. Plus i think the main dealer stamp appeal more at resale or trade in

in any case, Lets not forget that the first service is really only an oil filter, oil and a tyre tickle! it really shouldnt be so much

I would never take my car back to, or buy a car from Stratstone. Mike
