Have a look at the ZF troubleshooting guide here:

http://www.disco3.co.uk/gallery/albums/use...0guide.pdf

and scroll down to the page titled: "Step In Delay - Bump (MY05 and MY06)"

Rather than just checking the fluid level you will probably be best advised to change the transmission fluid and fit a new filter. It will cost about £350 at a good auto gearbox specialist or you can even have it done by ZF themselves at their service centre in Nottingham. Not cheap but will extend the life of the transmission anyway - much less expensive than a new gearbox and torque converter. Others will tell you to try a 'MegaFlush' but expert opinion is split over the advisability.

Lubrication of the selector cable is a frequently recommended job and another useful bit of preventative maintenance you can do yourself if handy with spanners.

The software re-flash has to be done by a really good indie or a LR dealership.

Good luck - hope you get it sorted. 2008 MY Java Black TDV8 HSE
