This is going to cost lives! Transferring from navy to civilian pilots (albeit the same guys) will see them working under CAA rules, which means if the wind is too high they ain't going up north to rescue someone!

It's outsourced rather than privatised. A subtle but important difference - there will be SLAs and penalty clauses for failure to provide the service. I doubt there will be much change in the effectiveness of the service. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

Bristow are actually a really good company and the S92 are much better than the old sea kings. |
I know a couple of guys who work in S&R, and they are not looking forward to changing copters, as the old ones can be fixed in the air with whatever is lying around, these newer ones are all fly by wire
Bristow is a British company that was taken over by an American company, doesn't mean that it will be operating to American rules.............. They are also very highly repsected in the North Sea and have vast experience of carrying out search and rescue there, and being rescued on a couple of occassions! BBC is getting very good at scare mongering. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Yes Ady we do, and it mixed in with the smell of cod! The BBC's "expert" is absolutely 180 degrees removed from fact. Sky is half credible....just.

Cod, just name one thing that can be "fixed" in a Sea King at 500' over the water that could not be "fixed" in a newer generation S-92 certified and tested to the latest FAR / JAR Part 29 amendment. When was the last Bristow crash in the North Sea? Stop name calling and admit when you are incorrect. Gone - 2008 Stornoway Grey RRS 2.7 TDV6
