Ipod sound quality

Hi All,
Has or does anyone else have this problem?
When I play my ipod which is connected via the lead in the centre console. On some of the tracks I get a distortion through the speakers which I can only describe as a static or hash. You would think that they are poor quality speakers. However, if you play a CD then the quality of the tracks are very good. The ipod plays fine in the house or through the headphones so this leads me to think it must be the lead which connects the ipod to the car.
Your thoughts would be welcomed.

As you say, it sounds like you have a poor connection, either the jack socket itself or the connecting wire.
Do you have another wire to try it with ?
Failing that it could be the link between the jack socket and the head unit Idea

I must admit, in my MY12, it has the bluetooth streaming Cool , so i very rarely use the lead connection. ON THE WAY: BMW F21 M140i

No I only have the lead that came with the car. When I bought the car it didn't have a lead but the main dealer supplied one. However, I've never checked if it is a genuine lead or an aftermarket version. I'll see if I can borrow one of a friend to see if it cures the fault.
Thanks.

I have no problem using ipod lead on mine apart from one track by The Heavy that seems to have a bit of bass distortion - everything else plays perfect Thumbs Up Wanted a Series 2 LR since childhood but previously owned MY16 Disco Sport HSE TD4 Auto, MY13 RR Sport Black Edition TDV6 Auto, MY10 RR Sport HSE TDV6 Auto, 2007 Freelander 1 Freestyle TD4 Soft Top, 2009 Freelander 2 GS TD4 Auto, 2007 Freelander 2 GS TD4, 2004 Disco 2 Metropolis Auto, 2002 Disco 2 GS, 2000 Freelander 1 SE TD4 SW

I guess you could also call in to a main dealer and see if they have one you could test out if they are not too far from you Idea ON THE WAY: BMW F21 M140i

make sure the volume on the i-pod isn't max'd out?

ie set the volume on the pod to half way, and use the volume on the car to amplify the signal. RRS gone

Ipods aren't known for being the best sound quality, unfortunately. Try turning the volume level down on the Ipod to see if that makes a difference. I'm in the shed, I'll be back in the real world in a minute.
