Home > General > Tom Tom and Smart Key don't mix |

Was at a horse trials yesterday and three RRS were recovered by Rescue. The car park had power lines running over the field and wouldn't start. Once towed to the gate and out from under the overhead lines, they all started. My normal key worked fine so fair assumption is that obviously smart keys are easily upset by electric current. Another own goal by LR. 2x TDV6. SE and HSE. Both returned to sender with issues👀

dont worry its not just lr smart keys at work in iraq we had landcrusiers that we couldn't start of we were close to the gate of the camp due to electronic countermeasures on the perimeter 50 yards down the road no problems and had the same problems at a power station only the dead truely know peace,

Not had that problem with my Tom Tom (710), which I use on long distances as a camera detector, but sometimes my car won't start or even light up the dashboard outside a friends house, I am sure there is a mobile phone mast nearby which causes interference

The Tom-Tom is interfering with the signal from the key, as will the power lines etc.

The workaround I use is just to disconnect the Tom Tom from the power source, start the car and reconnect the Tom Tom or move the key further away from the power source for the Tom Tom and then start the car. Thanks for the interesting comments though. I have to say it was a bit of a shock when on the first morning I had the car it wouldn't start until I figured out it was connected to the Tom Tom. Also if the built in Sat Nav didn't keep trying to put me on magical mystery tours to get from A to B via X, Y and Z I wouldn't need the Tom Tom |

I find the 2012 version of the RRS sat nav far better than the 2007 version.

Yes, there are a few routes that I do regularly that I know better (going to the inlaws for instance) and I noticed that it's learnt the routes that I have taken.

Guess you take the "longer and slower" route option '08 RRS TDV8 I converted my diesel RRS to run on an environmentally friendly mixture of caribou fat and baby seals oil |
