Ramp capacity

What Capacity do you need for "drive up" car ramps for a sport 05my? 2.5 tonne ?

Technically at least half the weight of the car minimum (with a bit of a safety margin) - I have 2 ramps each one on its own is rated 2.5t - many each one is rated 1/2 the total weight for the pair Mike

The problem with the lighter ones, load capacity aside, is that they are often rather narrow for 4x4 tyres.

Wouldn't a decent jack and axle stands be more flexible in use? I have a 3 tonne jack and a pair of 4 tonne (for the pair) axle stands. That way you can lift and support one corner if needed or the whole of one end (or one side).

Edit: actually, my axle stands are 3 tonne per pair, not 4. Still plenty for a RRS. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

I have some good wide ramps and they can be much more useful than axle stands and jacks for many jobs - although I do have 3t each x4 stands and 2x 3 ton jacks, one low profile and another high lift...but there are a few times its much easier to take it up on ramps to work underneath.

If you are going to use stands, its important to position them well too. Mike
