Tracker...?

Hi Guys

First post and new to the RRS world (well I will be on 09th March 2013)

I am sure this must have been discussed before but I am looking at the "Tracker Locate" device to be fitted, I would appreciate if anyone has any experience / comments regarding this system.

Cheers

I have one.

Fitting etc. was fine (its done by a local provider).

Online web facilities are interesting, you can track your own car if wife/family using the car and get reports on where its been etc. or if it moves from a set area.

It means it saves me money on the insurance (although probably not as much as it costs). Some insurers insist on one so it gives you a bigger choice of insurers.

It is peace of mind.

Ok so some people say they would not want their car back after it has been stolen but equally a lot of stolen cars are simply parked up nearby for a few days to check if a tracker is installed so you get it back in original condition and also if it is taken onwards there is a chance the low lifes will be caught rather than letting them get away with it.

Hi simon0566 and welcome. Got my new car in November last year and the insurance company would NOT insure me without a tracker, so I purchased one and got it fitted at home. Great service and the cost was reasonable as can be. Worth getting the lifetime subscription if you intend to keep it for a while...
Also agree with Martin above.. Thumbs Up It is what it is and I am what I am....

Another pitfall of getting it back after its been stolen is that its registered on the database as a stolen & recovered which might put potential buyers off your motor when you come to sell it. Whistle I ask a similar question when i was thinking of getting a tracker fitted, decided against it in the end.

Thanks for response guys, very grateful indeed ...

I think for the cost of installation (£225 with Chameleon) and a up front £175 and you can, according to tracker uk pay the £175 monthly ongoing ( payable montly it seems fairly cheap after he first year) it seems fantastic value for peace of mind and the technology available now especially if you are away / abroad , it seems really good to track on line, any of you remember when car alarms first came in (showing my age now) that was cool but to track online....wow in real time.....hopefully the scumbags are on the back foot.

I will keep you all posted as I progress...

I would strongly recommend having a tracker fitted. Never got round to doing it on my old TDV8 and of course it was stolen.
I fitted one straight away on the new car and it definatley gives peace of mind.
As said most theives park the car up for a few days to see if it is recovered, so hopefully no damage.

If you dont have one and its stolen, your insurance will give you bottom dollar for your vehicle, and if you have spent a lot on your lovely RRS you lose all this as well.

Hope this helps. Thumbs Up

Unless you have got GAP insurance. Far cheaper than a tracker. Thumbs Up

Gap did not cover my 2000k wheels, also side steps, lights upgrade front and rear.
Rear TV/DVD, playstaion 3, just had new pads and disks allround, 4 new rubber floor mats, rear boot mat all genuine, 4 new tyres two months before,
9 months road tax and about £65 in fuel.

Get a Tracker!!! Thumbs Up

Thanks JPR1, spookily the guy has just finished fitting it, just registering, went for the Locate version, so at least if I never have to use it for theft I can have some fun with it with the Mrs!! Laughing

Did not really want to go for GAP and the same thing crossed my mind regarding wheels etc, I hope I never need it!, thanks guys. Thumbs Up

For the sake of £190 for 25k of cover for upto four years, its got to be worth considering GAP. Wink

I thought it only appeared on the insurance database if it was recovered after they had paid out, one assumes if it is quick recovery then it does not show up as such .............. but I may be wrong Whistle Paul
