Quick Towbar question

Hi everyone,

Just received my RRS and im very pleased with it so far apart from that I cannot get the towbar off. I have the key but cant get it into the lock. However, i can pull the green handle out, does that mean that its already open?

Thanks in advance

Kristian

Hi,

On mine I found I needed to twist the green handle to get the tow bar to lock and allow me to remove the key. If you are new to doing the towbar I suggest you try this. It is kind of the opposite to you as I could not remove my key

Have you tried just pulling the green bit out and twisting that as if unlocked that should release. 2011 Autobiography Santorini Black

Have a look at this instruction video.
Although it's not the LR Branded towbar it's exactly the same.

I still find mine a little difficult but you just need to ensure you twist the key correctly and use a little force. TDV8 HSE, Remap (+45 BHP + 100 Nm), Taylored sport exhaust system by Pipe Werx

Green handle will pull out about 5mm when it's locked, thats all.
It pulls out further and you can twist it when it unlocked. ON THE WAY: BMW F21 M140i

as Bean has said, it will still pull out, but you will not be able to twist it (anti-clockwise) if it's locked.

it it twists but still does not release, a bit of elbow grease and give it a shake... Thumbs Up RRS gone

It may already be unlocked and stuck slightly out of position so that the mechanism hasn't released the bolt in to the housing as it would be when fully fitted. The problem is that if the hook has been left in place for a while it might be corroded and feel fully fitted even if it's not.

I'd be tempted to try some WD40 style treatment on the hook where it goes in to the receiver. Then, after a suitable soak time, try to move the hook itself.

The hook can be a slightly tempremental little sod at times. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed
