Forum wisdom on private number plates

I'm sure I'm about to hang myself out for some serious p*ss taking but here goes...

As you know my name is Daz Sear....... well Darren Peter Sear to be precise, and I want put a private plate on my car.

There are numerous options available, I'd be interested in what you think could be a good choice.

DA55 EAR......... a bit of spacing imagination (yes I know what you are going to say.....) and I could have
DA5 5EAR which seems quite cool for £2000.

Or should I go down the classic route of plates like 87 DS for £5500 or even 12 DPS for £6500.

I know the classic route is much more expensive but you don't have to risk the law by messing with spacing.
The really cheap route would be the likes of an Irish DAZ plate, DAZ 85 is available for just over £2000... the price plumets if you have DAZ then four numbers.

I really could do with a little help to see what seems acceptable, I know there will be differing oppinions but let me know what you think.

Thanks in advance

I personally prefer the cherished plates - they cost more - but for that reason. I think initials work best (i am of course totally biased). I think some adjusted name plates just look chav'y regardless of the vehicle they are on - that said there are some plates on here that are not the true 'chersihed' type but aren't trying to be a name either - they say exactly what they mean (i.e. VA & Tim). I guess what I am saying is some names work on the non cherished format some don't and if in doubt get a cherished plate.

Have a look through members names for a steer on plates that work.

I am bit out of this conversation, especially since not having a UK plate.
Daz, but if you want to hear my opinion, I personally would not pay £6000 for 3 letters, which noone expect you will recognize what they mean anyway...

All depends how much you can afford. If I had the money I would generally go for the older type but the new numberplates fit the bill perfectly for you so the choice is yours. 2005 Zambezi TDV6 - Gone but not forgotten

@ Coko - I know what you mean but it depends whether you are buying for yourself or for 'show'

@ VA - I agree depending on what you want to 'say' I think your old one (presume you still have it) is a good use of the new format to say what you wanted to - it was also apt.

I personally had some spare cash and thought why not - over time (not at mo) it is likely to appreciate and the value will always be there...

Daz - list what you have found for feedback - you could even decide it on a poll !!

I actually have 3 private plates - 2 in use and one on retention Embarassed Embarassed
FA57 RRS, P12 MUD on my 90 and P13 MUD which I bought at the same time as P12 and put on a Freelander and then transferred to my FFRR and the last RRS. None are too flashy I reckon. P12 and P13 cost me £250 each, FA57 cost me not a lot more.

I know that FA57 MUD is on a TDv8 FFRR owned by a well known LR tuning company
If you want a really flash plate 1 O is being auctioned soon - bidding opens at £10k............................ remember the record is now £395,000 paid recently for a plate and 1O is reckoned to be going to go for more!

FA57 DAZ, has already been sold according to the DVLA website Big Cry 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Cherished is the only way to go in my opinion. In my view convoluted plates do look a little vulgar. WINNER - 2009 Best Newcomer Award

Daz just my opinion but the only ones I would consider would be 87 DS or 12 DPS. I think the other would make you and the car look cheap. Spacing of the other one Shocked Shocked

Call me stupid here but why the hell does the ebay adver show the side of a car, would it not have made more sense to show a side that actually has plates fitted.... they could have fitted display plates to show how to 'play' with the number..... Nope Daz - if he actually showed the number he wouldn't have made it to £57!!!

@ Tim - yours is one of the new formats i like because it fits and is not being contorted...
