I had the same kind of problem - I put up with it for a few months thinking it was going to cost big bucks. It turned out to be a temperature sensor in a hose on the coolant system - because it was faulty the car was thinking it was overheating even though there was no warning from the gauge in the car. It's a quick fix & costs about £15 for the part -can't say its definitely the problem but don't rule it out. 16MY Estoril Blue SVR.............

Further to beany's list, it could be the brake pedal switch. That has been known to throw some odd errors when it's on the blink. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
