All the discs on my P&J were well worn with a pronounced lip on the outer edge so a thorough brake service was needed.
Did the fronts first and that was quite simple. The rears are a bit more complicated as I wanted to change the discs and pads and EPB shoes.

Using Bodsy's Brake Bible was a big help so thanks Bodsy

There are a few things that others trying this job might find helpful so here goes. Firstly - was confused by references to 'Fuse 8 in the CJB' removal to disable the EPB. After a bit of study eventually established that the CJB is the same thing as the engine fusebox and in this case Fuse 8 is in fact 'fusible link 8' which is not mentioned in the owner's handbook but is identified in the pictorials under the CJB lid and here it is:



These fusible links are hard to pull out without gently using long-nosed pliers.

The combined anti-rattle springs/shims don't come with the new pads so it is best to order some as the old ones will be covered in baked-on crud.

The new EPB shoes come with retaining springs and clips but not new pins for the shoe retaining clips which just seems stupid as these were the most severely corroded parts! Also in the kit come two mysterious green and red springs:



These are not mentioned in B'sBB or the workshop manual so assumed these are for another model (FFRR?).

It is very satisfying to strip and clean the backplate and then give everything thorough going over with degreaser and wash off with a low pressure hose.

The temptation to paint the disc bells and calipers is then overwhelming and they look so much better when reassembled:

Fitting the new EPB shoes is a very difficult the first time but once you have figured it out is quite simple.




Be prepared for a bit of frustration adjusting the EPB shoes as the adjuster is a primitive affair which (unbelievably) appears to rely on fouling one of the shoe retaining springs to stop it turning in service

and hard to see when adjusting as it has to be accessed through a tiny hole in the disc bell. I'm still not really sure if I got the correct number of clicks!

The end result should be a nice clean and smoothly operating brake though - which makes it all worthwhile (and saves you a fortune on garage bills).

CJB = Central Junction Box  2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed
