Heater fan intermittent

Hi all, anyone come across this one!!

I have a 2005 2.7 tdi she has an intermittent fault, if the fan is on (any speed setting) and the ignition is switched on sometimes the fan will come on and sometimes not?? sometimes after a few minutes while driving the fan comes on, I think it could be a relay issue (sticking) anyone know where the relay might be, or any other ideas please????
