Guess how much Part Ex?

Went to a BMW garage today to see about getting the wife a smaller car...

We test drove a few cars and the sales chap said would, you be looking to part ex the RRS to which I said depends on the value.

Guess how much he offered me for my 57 plate VGC, TDV8 HSE with FLRSH and 65000 miles on the clock?

Wait for it....

£15,000!!!!!!!!

Censored me, that's nearly £800 a month depreciation just over 18 month

Is that anywhere remotely near its P/ex value now? Big Cry Wife's Car: BLACK RRS TDV8 HSE with all the bits Smile

Dealer offered 24k but expected to raise 22 in the trade/auction. They had full fat sat in showroom so maybe had more room to move on price. I got the usual guff that the 6 grand of extras really have no value in the second hand market. When it came to finalising the deal, I was able to get a further few grand off by buying outright without trade in, and was offered another few grand off if I bought with finance. So did this and then settled finance before first payment was due without penalty. I had intended to sell sport but in cold light of day, I couldn't accept 22 grand I paid 59 for five years ago but it had the spec I ordered and have since decided to keep the sport and let other half use it. Her mini has had a few nervous breakdowns recently including a power steering pump fire. But it means it is still about to take for hoolie when mood fancies and not sat on someone else's driveway and them enjoying my loss Mr. Green 2x TDV6. SE and HSE. Price guides are a waste of time - best to look on autotrader and see how much others are asking - I speak from experience Sad Wanted a Series 2 LR since childhood but previously owned MY16 Disco Sport HSE TD4 Auto, MY13 RR Sport Black Edition TDV6 Auto, MY10 RR Sport HSE TDV6 Auto, 2007 Freelander 1 Freestyle TD4 Soft Top, 2009 Freelander 2 GS TD4 Auto, 2007 Freelander 2 GS TD4, 2004 Disco 2 Metropolis Auto, 2002 Disco 2 GS, 2000 Freelander 1 SE TD4 SW

I agree with what your saying but auto trader does have its pitfalls, as there are a lot of people in the same boat facing large depreciation losses when they resell and they overprice their cars, especially on auto trader. When I was looking for mine I was surprised by the cost band on near identically cars, I could easily have spent an extra 10k and got pretty much the same car.

I think the best way of judging value is to watch all the cars being sold for auction on eBay, this will truly give you a price that people are willing to pay, again ignore the buy it now prices etc as most of these are wishfull thinking.

I was thinking more bottom end of autotrader prices rather than top end to gauge price Sad

I have looked at cap, parkers, used car expert, autotrader and eBay but at the end of the day it is what someone is prepared to pay and all my offers have been well below all the price guides I looked at Big Cry Wanted a Series 2 LR since childhood but previously owned MY16 Disco Sport HSE TD4 Auto, MY13 RR Sport Black Edition TDV6 Auto, MY10 RR Sport HSE TDV6 Auto, 2007 Freelander 1 Freestyle TD4 Soft Top, 2009 Freelander 2 GS TD4 Auto, 2007 Freelander 2 GS TD4, 2004 Disco 2 Metropolis Auto, 2002 Disco 2 GS, 2000 Freelander 1 SE TD4 SW

I think that pretty much covers it. The best price guides are the used car sites. Again it's what price the cars start at, not what the highest one is.

I'd concur with that trade offer beinga Censored .
