Smart key won't work with Tom Tom plugged in to lighter sock

I am having a weird problem with the smart key. When my Tom Tom is plugged in to the lighter socket I get a message to say that the smart key is not found and the car (RRS 3.0L TDV6 2010) won't start. If I unplug the Tom Tom from the lighter socket the smart key works and the car starts no problem. Once running if I plug the Tom Tom in all is OK. Has anyone experienced anything like this.
