United Kingdom 2012 Range Rover Sport SDV6 HSE Orkney Grey
From Disco 4 to RRE to RRS!

My Journey through the LR model range continues with my latest acquisition, a MY12 RRS HSE SDV6!

My first foray into LR ownership was with a Discovery 4, brilliant family car that was extremely capable apart from being just slightly too large for my liking and terrible handling around corners. That said, it handled better than the D3 I had used previously on Safari in Southern Africa.

Captivated by the striking appearance and allure of 'hot hatch-like' handling from the Evoque, I duly purchased one a year ago and enjoyed the greater tarmac capabilities of that small SUV whilst being impressed with its off-road credentials too; albeit tempered by: 'good for what it is' rather than comparable to the Disco or Defender.

It became apparent to me, however, that I missed some of the qualities of the Discovery and didn't want to lose some of those of the Evoque. I wanted a car comparable in many ways to both! The obvious contender to deliver this was the RRS.

I duly test drove a new RRS and liked it. A lot. So much so, that I bought my own albeit used so as to try and save a bit of depreciation given that there is a new model soon to be upon us.

I've not had it a week yet but the drives I've had have confirmed to me that it has enough space for me and my family, that it handles as good as - or close to - the Evoque thanks to the same Dynamic mode but crucially, is more comfortable and soaks up the bumps and potholes far better, that it has the same level of luxury that the Evoque has and, finally, that it has the similar off-road capability to the Discovery.

i wanted a car with certain options having grown used to them in the RRE: Sunroof, Dual View, Electric opening/closing boot, Heated steering wheel, Privacy Glass and Premium Logic 7 ICE. In addition, I now have Adaptive Cruise Control too which isn't an option on the RRE but I've given up Surround Cameras, Blind Spot Monitoring and Ambient Lighting; none of which I'm fussed about so all is good!

So far then, the RRS is proving to be great! Thumbs Up

Sounds like you're enjoying your new RRS Thumbs Up
As mentioned in the thread when you were looking, the RRS really is a cut above the RRE IMO......and for not that much more money.

Out of the things you've 'not got', I think the blind spot monitoring is probably the most useful. Once I worked out what the orange light was on the mirrors of the loaner RRE I had I realised what a great invention it is. I guess it'll appear on RRS's of the future.

I think that unless you tow/go 'off road' a lot, surround camera's are a nice gimmick, but I can't believe people use them for regular driving.

And as for ambient lighting...... what a load of cack that is...I have never thought, oooh, do I want a blue or red hue in my car today. Whistle Laughing

Cheers Beancounter.

Yeah, the surround cameras are nice but I used them once in a year so won't be missed.

I use the rear camera only - parking in the garage it helps when reversing in. Current car: Porsche 911 Carrera S PDK (997.2) Past Car: (MY12) Range Rover Sport HSE SDV6 - Orkney Grey with Almond interior

I wouldnt worry about when the next model will come out and/or the impact on value of the current model - it will happen at somepoint but its still in the future.

Blind spot monitoring will be on all the range soon though. I can see the point of surround cameras, but every time have never felt they justified the expense for the use i would have for them - for the time ive had them on range rovers, once or twice used from the gimik point of view....probably should just be a standard feature...until then, they arent worth it.

Dual view is another one - its ok, but actually i felt the screen quality degraded on the FFRR i had with it on...plus would it be used...for us only very occasionally.

I would never have a sun roof on any Land Rover (or other automotive product) every again...why cut a perfectly good roof up, to make it leak!!

The 2010/11 premium logic is apparently the same as the 12/13 standard logic system...seems a little better

From a principle POV the sport and FFRR should have abient lighting...but actually its a pointless feature.

Enjoy your sport - much better than the D4/RRE Thumbs Up Mike

You must of had a bad experience with sunroofs mse Shocked ive had them on both my sports and never had one leak yet, and wouldn't be without it, i have mine open every dry day, dual view tv, i also have that, used it twice, but its not often i carry passangers, surround cameras, an expensive option for me to not use or ever need to use, (just like the dual view really) i can imagine this going faulty quite often as the car gets older. Whistle

I would agree that the Dual View is more gimmicky than a necessity. I used it only a few times in the Evoque and those were when we were travelling to France. Since I'm the only one in the car 95% of the time it is an unnecessary item and more a 'talking point'.

I do like a sunroof in a car though. I have had three convertibles in the past and love to see the sky above. The Ewok's panoramic roof provides that but doesn't open and I sometimes prefer an open sunroof to window. Current car: Porsche 911 Carrera S PDK (997.2) Past Car: (MY12) Range Rover Sport HSE SDV6 - Orkney Grey with Almond interior

You are the first owner ive met not to have an issue with sunroofs!

My last 2 discos have sunroof problems as did our freelander. Our friends disco 4 glass roof also leaked!...hence never again.

For clarity i hadnt a problem with Dual view (other than screen quality...probably because every other pixel is missing) for us there was little point Mike
