Insurers and using GPS Black Boxes for young drivers

I see some insurers who insist on young drivers having a 'Black Box' GPS system installed are rumoured to increase their charges if the youngster break the speed limit.

I was wondering if that is legal as who is responsible for keeping the GPS database current and who guarantees that it is accurate. My Sport's Sat Nav says I'm off-road at 80mph when actually its a new dual carraigeway!

There are loads of temporary speed limits, speed limit changes and new roads so the poor kid could be driving legally but, because the road works have moved and the limit in the database no longer applies, the 'Black Box' would still record a violation !!

I've fiddled with a few of these, the data is stored online and you are given a web logon to review your data..

Its all based on a points scoring system, speeding, latenight driving and certain time slots during the day are marked down as minus points and keeping under the limit and avoiding blackspots are plus points. And it seems they are clued up on the temporary speed limits changes as they tends to us the same data as RAC for traffic monitoring.

The people i know that have them, are yet to be scored poorly for off roading due to poor GPS data from what discussions ive had.. but I can see your point ! Why?.. Because i can....
