Knowing what their Aftercare service contained might throw some light on their reason for applying this 50 mile limit. Daft as it sounds there could be (hard to imagine what) sound reasons for their refusal.

It was Hillendale. The car has now disappeared off there website so I wonder if they were just putting me off as they had someone lined up for the car!!

If its the dealership in Nelson lancashire, it says ALL their customers are welcome.
The Hillendale experience is open to everyone This is their aftercare statement, no evidence of a 50 mile radius buying policy.

Even though its gone, by giving you the line, they could have lost other sales, I'd still ring the DP

If it was wanted for a mate of a mate they could have just said it was sold at the first inquiry, at least then the op would have looked at their future stock, now I presume he wouldn't touch them with a barge pole.

No I wouldn't touch them with a barge pole now!!! It's one of the strangest things I've ever heard that's why I rang back the following day just to confirm I'd heard them right the first time!! Anyway I purchased a RRS sport from another dealer today so alls well that ends well.
