Any issues with running m+s tyres all year round?

Noticed my car has m+s tyres on it.
Would these be ok year round? Does it really have a great impact on the drive?

Advice appreciated. Only other RRS I drove was only for short period so haven't actually noticed a difference.

I think all new sports now come with M&S tyres on in the UK, so no its not a problem to run them all year round. But it might of been better posted in the Wheels & Tyres section. Embarassed Thumbs Up

Do they?
That is interesting!

Cheers Ady.
I hadn't realised people stick to the classifications on the forum having seen various things posted in general. I assumed since this was what most people read I would post here.
Noted for future though. Mr. Green

Wheels & Tyres is still a fairly new topic for the forum, and yes you are correct, a lot of members do post in the General section but then if the mods find it inappropriate then they will move it to the correct section. Thumbs Up

My Volvo XC70 ran Pirelli Scorpion M&S all year round, in fact only tyre I ever put on in 8 years of ownership so far. Its probably fair to say the XC70 is not a "sports" variant but a chipped D5 (320 ft/lb) had it pulling out of corners. The best part was the fact that as long as 4WD tracking done every so often, they last 40K+ miles! Sure, 1800kg vs 2700 kg but no faffing about when it came to slush/snow/ice or a bit of gentle off-roading.

Did I notice the difference over a sports tyre? No but then the XC isn't a sports car and neither is the RRS.

As far as I am aware there is no problem running M&S tyres all year. In fact in the UK our temperature rarely gets into the
Zone that would require summer tyres Rolling Eyes 2013 Discovery HSE Luxury - 3.0 SDV6 - Santorini Black

Never been a problem running M&S all year...many many tyres are!!!

AT's MT's etc are M&S

Yes 2013 certainly come with tyres M&S.

Understanding how tyres work and what M&S means, will explain why its a silly (not that thats a problem BTW as if you dont know you need to ask Thumbs Up ) question and why you wouldnt notice. Mike

You can run 'Summer' tyres in summer but not below 7 C; then you need 'Winter' tyres. But, unless you want the hassle, M&S tyres are "all weather' tyres which means they have good all-round performance especially in the wet !! and let's face it we getthat all year!

Relax and keep on trucking.

Having had 6 LR's with m&s tyres fitted from new and driven all year round on them with no problems for 10 years I was shocked to discover my current RRS had summer tyres when I bought it - now converted to m&s and awaiting some snow Bow down

Would rather have an all year tyre any day than a summer tyre - especially with the British summer Rolling Eyes Wanted a Series 2 LR since childhood but previously owned MY16 Disco Sport HSE TD4 Auto, MY13 RR Sport Black Edition TDV6 Auto, MY10 RR Sport HSE TDV6 Auto, 2007 Freelander 1 Freestyle TD4 Soft Top, 2009 Freelander 2 GS TD4 Auto, 2007 Freelander 2 GS TD4, 2004 Disco 2 Metropolis Auto, 2002 Disco 2 GS, 2000 Freelander 1 SE TD4 SW

I can tell for sure the difference between summer and M+S tires. When running ms tires in the spring the grip especially on the corners is not as good. I can feel it and hear it, no doubt about it. Sop I do switch to summer tires for the rest of the year. I use verdestein (might get the name wrong). Vadim A.

To be honest that's just a quality of the tyre...the Pirelli m&s on the sport are much better than the good years previously fitted Mike

I have M&S on my 2006 and they are fine.

Just over 2 years ago I had Pirelli Scorpion M&S fitted to my P38 and in winter they more than coped with the snow, slush and ice.

Where I live, we ave a 17% gradient to content with at the end of the road that gets steeper and the only way out for us is up it or down it and I never had any issues.

Then in summer we did a little bit of fording in the local beck - up to top of bumper over rocks in the water and they coped fine. Also been over fields with them and never had an issue

I read a reports while back on summer v winter tyres, and the thing which surprised me was how much longer braking distances were when running M & S tyres during summer. I think the main reason is that it is a different rubber compound that doesn't fair to well in the heat, and thus also affects lateral G forces as well. I'm glad I have both sets, and will be swapping over next week now that temperatures are starting to drop.

I"d be very surprised if LR were fitting summer tyres to any motors Shocked My guess is that they are all weather tyres.
