Long before you get your log book you (or your dealer?) will get the new tax disc and a certificate to say you can have the plates made with the new reg on.

I got the log book last week - but no sign of the tax disc at home or the dealers. ---------------------------

Don't panic I am in exactly the same position got the registration document but no disc yet. There is obviously a backlog and you will receive it soon. |

They don't seem to be that interest in sending the tax disc then, will they pay the fine for not displaying a tax disc? (My enduro mate just got fined for this as the police couldn't get him on anything else)

I have had no issues with changing the number plate myself when visiting the local DVLA office. Walk in with retention certificate and V5 - walk out with Tax disk and certifcate saying I can have the plates made. But sadly they have closed the DVLA office for Birmingham - even though it was a purpose built facillity that can't have been open for more than 8 years.

Unfortunately they have closed ALL local DVLA offices so now all applications have to go to Swansea to be processed. That's progress for you |

The DVLA still claim 10 working days for reg turnaround and charge £85 for direct transfer or £105 for retention. In reality it takes three to four weeks and still the same price. If it were any other business than a government agency, there would be outcry from MP's. Like VOSA and DSA, these agencies are now stand alone and have to raise their own income so fines are flying, £35 for not informing a car is sold although they acknowledge they received the V5. You can't argue or apeal just have to pay. Fair justice really? 2x TDV6. SE and HSE. Both returned to sender with issues👀

As long as the car is taxed on the computers - which it will be - nothing too much to worry about.
