Should a software update be covered by a warranty.

No parts have been changed but I have been told that the rumble noise, juddering I get from the NSR of my car at low speed in traffic is from the diff and it needs a software update to resolve it. It is an intermittant fault.

I find it strange that I have had the car for 3 years, no parts or work has been carried out in this area on the car, so why would the software for the rear diffs need updating.

Is it under LandRover std warranty? If so, software fixes should be done. If extended third party then they will cover failure, not preventative (the diff hasn't failed, it's just noisy) if you tell them about it, then they will remove cover as you could have done something about it when you knew it was failing....

What year is yours? I can do software updates if there are any available but only on pre 2010 facelift models.

It is an '08 HST.

Warranty is with Warranty Direct as Land Rover didn't offer me an extended warranty for some reason.

The update has been done @ £132, but why did it need doing. The car has been fine until recently, nothing has been changed so surely it is a failure of the existing software which should be classed as a repair.

If it is because the software had a fault when written it should be done FOC by Land Rover

Did it resolve the noise? Sounds like cowpoo to me. Having suffered several diff failures I would be a little bit more persistent in getting it resolved before you get a bill for £1500 plus vat for a new diff. 2x TDV6. SE and HSE. Both returned to sender with issues👀

Bodsy, I've a '09 HSE and not sure what updates I have/need? I see you're around Northampton on the 12th and wondered if there's a chance to get something done (if I need it...)? I'm in Hospital from around 11am so it'd need to be early.

Hi Adrian,

Unless you have a particular problem, there's no really much in terms of updates that would be of use to you. Most of the updates are to get older cars upto the my07 software.  Bodsys Brake Bible

Well I can help you do that, read your fault codes, fire up your FBH a d check for updates. But nothing specific...

I have had the car back now for a few days but the judder/ rumble noise is still there but not as bad, but it is getting more frequent the more I drive it. They cleared multiple fault codes relating to the Rear Diff control, repaired the harness to the Temp Sensor on the diff and carried out Rear Diff Control Module Update.

What are the symptoms of Rear Diff failure?

Any other suggestions of what it maybe, the problem only happens at low speeds, below 15/20 mph and more often in slow moving traffic. Around 12-18 months ago I had the Brake caliper on the same corner of the car sticking on and it wore the pads very quickly which must have generated alot of heat in that area, could that have caused any problems?

I have now had an error message flash up, "Transmission Fault, Reduced Traction"

Any ideas?
