I just bought a 56 plate and have exactly the same, even down to one remote does the glass and the other the tailgate. It looks like the wiring has corroded in the glass, which apparently is a common fault.
Something like a £500 new glass with the wiring sealed in it or try and take to bits with a £36 wiring loom, anyone done it?Apparently if it's under warranty the dealers put in a new glass unit, go figure.
I stripped the back plastic off above the switch (bottom of glass) , found the metal plate and screws under it were corroded as water gets in ( probably why the switches also corrode, I rust treated and repainted but what a crap seal in the first place).
I also stripped off the top spoiler and also found the main wiring plug in the roof lining in the centre rear between hinges. Got 12v in pink/ grey wire in plug, but lost continuity through the glass.
Looks like 4 choices;
1. New expensive glass.
2. Try stripping glass, new £36 loom and try re seal . Could be make or break!
3. Strip again and try reprogramming the other remote by shorting across plug in head lining to simulate switch activation whilst pressing 3rd button on remote, then just use remotes to open glass.
4. Or gluing a wire to the inside plastic bulge of the glass that holds the faulty wires( in black so you cannot see it) and using this as supply.
Or any friendly dealers fancy taking up our case with land rover as its a known fault, and let them get on to the faulty suppliers. Or is it land rovers fault as the rear seal at the bottom of the external glass just let's water in, if you haven't looked take of the plastic painted cover and have a look before it rots away .
Too busy to decide at the moment which to do, hope this helps and let me know which way you go, might kick start me!
Cheers Andy
