No shock, but as I've always said I wouldn't buy one, they are too small. How much difference does the handling pack make? I am assuming that the diesel would be different as it doesn't have it and certainly wouldn't have got to the speeds that the SC did. I also have to say the HST is horrible. Has anyone driven the FF SC, how does that compare? I'd also be interested to know how the SC matches up to the X5 and Cayenne Turbo, both cars were mentioned by the LR guys saying the X5 has huge anti roll bars that make it a harsh ride and the tyres on the Cayenne are poor so it doesn't have an all terrain capability. Were these cars you SC owners considered, or was it a case of looks being more important? Sorry for the questions, I'm just intrigued.

Pelyma,

I've yet to drive an SC or a RRS with DR, so can't make the comparison but I came to LR from a long line of BMWs and I don't find the HSE handles badly at all (all things considered). It's easily hustlable through the twisties as long as you respect its limitations.

I don't have a large enough family to warrant the 7 seats and I certainly don't need any offroad capability but the SUV was certainly the way to go. I tried the X5, got invited to a Cayenne day and spent an unnecessary 15 mins with an XC90.

The X5 is a very good car. The 3.0d was the one I was looking at and it shuffles along at a fair old rate and like most BMWs, handles very well. The trouble with it, is that you have to spend a fair amount more money to get the same spec out of your X5 than you get for standard with the RRS. I also think the interior of the RRS is much nicer than the X5.

Again, the Cayenne is a great car. It's very very good on road and even the V6 is reasonably quick, although the one to go for is really the S. Trouble is though, I think the interior is very poor for a premium marque and of course the looks kill it dead as an option for a lot of people.

Obviously, I wasn't looking for a capable offroader so the fact that the X5 shouldn't be taken offroad in anything more than mild conditions didn't really matter to me. The Cayenne though, seemed to me to be quite capable offroad. It has adjustable air suspension, the Porsche equivalent to TR and a locking rear diff. If the tyres are the issue, then I wouldn't have said that's a reason to discount the car.

Some of us do have it and alot more will have it as standard on MY07. It makes a huge difference to the handling even on the slightly slower diesel. Though some are not as slow as others Wink

Never mind, the LR3 will never have the dynamic handling that the sport has, thats for sure. So as they say what you can't have you'll never miss or will you Question Wink

I've driven or been a passenger in a fair few saloon cars in similar circumstances to what I experienced at Gaydon. But I have never seen a 4x4 handle so well at high speed on undulating surfaces. The Dynamic pack is fantastic. TDV6 - gone
TDV8 - gone

So many questions "P" Wink

The dynamic handling pack is available on the diesel.

A fully chipped diesel will achieve similar speeds.

The fullfat RR is not avaialable with the Dynamic handling pack

As for me .... I chose my supercharged for a number of reasons

1. LR make the best SUV 4x4's in the world !

2. The RRS is bar far the best looking both inside & out!

3. The porsche is pig ugly - the x5 = too mant about

4. The supercharged Jaguar engine is awsome!

5. The seating/driving position of the sport is spot on Very Happy

6. I like visiting my local petrol station frequently Wink

Thanks for your answers, Josh I don't expect my D3 to handle like that it has a different role in life Laughing The SC does seem to be the engine. I've not been in a SC car before but I went in 2 yesterday, the RRS and an E55. The RRS had lots of whine from the supercharger yet the Merc had none but was mind blowingly fast (you can tell I've never done this fast car bit before!) Is the whine more normal to a SC engine or is the AMG more the norm?

All superchargers make that noise, I guess it's down to how the engine bay is soundproofed as to whether you hear it or not...

I have had a few V8's and I can definately say the Supercharged sound is by far the best esp coupled with my new JE exhaust Wink

I've been up at Gaydon today, absolutely superb! The RRS SC is a fantastic bit of kit - and it really shouldn't handle that well!

Top notch hospitality from LR, good to see the inside of the Gaydon test site and see some Freelander 2's zooming about Cool

Great to meet VA, misery, Jay and Mr and Mrs oilman151 Mr. Green
