The company I chose to do the work wasn't some dodgy corner shop, rather one that has been in the same business for nearly 15 years, does work on behalf of many big name brands and wouldn't be in business any more if their work wasn't up to scratch or had any liabilities attached to them after repairing many thousands of wheels.

The outer face of a wheel is where most of the stresses are and therefore where strength is, not the inner face which is where mine was cracked. Consequently, I wouldn't consider having the front of the wheel repaired.

Like I said, I am looking for a replacement in the mean time and this one will become a spare and won't be used regularly for long.

think id rather drive at 70mph on the spare than a welded wheels to be honest

Being devil's advocate I can think of a whole host of reasons why that wouldn't be safe or good.

-Different tread pattern, what would happen in an emergency braking situation ?
-Tyre compound not designed for speed but for longevity while not being used
-Diff damage through constant uneven wheel speed if the rolling radius isn't identical
-Tyre pressure may not be accurate unless you check it as regularly as your main wheels
