What is High Mileage

Would just like to gauge members thoughts on what is deemed acceptable high mileage, mine is 4 years old and coming up to 70K and what is the highest mileage some of us have on our motors.

Ive never had a car long enough to get it to high mileage leeds, but with all the good reports coming from the MY 2012/13 owners maybe its time to chop yours in and see what all the fuss is about Laughing 70k isn't high mileage these days double that and then your getting to high mileage but with the sport people tend to shy away from sports with 80k + as the market for selling is greatly reduced. But having said that, there seems to be a market for cheap RRS for 1st time buyers, so if the miles are high and the motor is cheap then the younger guys take a risk with a high miler just to get behind the wheel of a sport because its thee motor to own and quite a few young lads dream motor. Thumbs Up

Apparently it's graduated on car size...which I didn't know.

Our car types average miles are 13k per annum I recall so 52000 at 4 years, but that wouldn't mean 70k is excessive 4k ish extra per year.

Although lrs service schedule is 14k or 12months now I recall so 56k standard LR at 4years?

The range rover last year did 9k Mike

Mine will be about 65k miles when it hits its 5th birthday. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

For me a car is a tool for work. I ran the bmw's to 200k each. I take the view buy a good car, keep it immaculate and fully serviced (which is important) then minimise depreciation by running them until they become unfit for purpose.

I'm waiting to see just how reliable the TDV8 lump proves to be. 2007 TDV8 HSE, Stornoway, 20" HST alloys + GG ATs, HST body kit and Remap (+45 BHP + 100 Nm)
2002 Freelander 2.4 ES, Black, 16 alloys +GG AT2s

BMW E39 540 (I loved this car)

Personally, I've never had a car get past 30k miles Embarassed , so for me anything above 50k would be 'high mileage'.
That said, engines (well maybe not LR ones Laughing ) are built to last these days so I recon anything over 100k is probably more akin to most peoples view. ON THE WAY: BMW F21 M140i

I've always thought 75,000 miles was about the point it becomes a 'high miler' (6 or 7 years fairly average use)

For the best part of a decade it's the warranty that dictates when I switch. I usually run the manufacturer's warranty out, then add on a year, then sell

Thumbs Up ============
2010 TDV8 HSE - ooo laa laaaaaaaaa
2007 TDV8 HSE - superb car and very reliable
============
2012 - dearly departed, sadly missed.. to return in late 2013 with a new TDV8!

These engines are made to last if you look after them but the cost will proportionally increase with increasing millage. Have a friend who runs a S8 from new and is on 580.000km, engine still as new but alll major componetts have been overhauled. On the other hand my father's old FFRR was near to dead at 100.00km. After a major overhaul runs smooth with 160.000 km on the clock. Having said this I assume high milage depends on your budget and willingness to invest into a old car. Plus having worked at a company remanufacturing engines for JLR, i have seen engines that had it after less then 30.000 km Whistle

High mileage to me is anything over 50k, don't generally keep cars long enough to even reach that.
The sport is on 29 and I'm planning on keeping it a couple of more years so I'll be selling it with about 40k on it.
I know cars these days are good for high miles, I just have something in my head that puts me off, plus I get bored of the same car after a few years Mr. Green

A pal of mine is a driving instructor, he has an 09 plate mini cooper diesel, he bought it brand new and has just clocked up 180000 miles Shocked yes thats one hundred and eighty thousand miles Shocked Just imagine the pain that has had. Back in the early 1990's i was driving a diesel escort van, in those days diesels had to be serviced every 6000 miles, it was in for service every 5- 6 weeks, until my boss decided that every 6000 miles was too soon and extended it to every 12000 miles against fords advice Shocked i put 118000 miles on it in 15 months, passed the vehicle over to a work colleague he ran it for a further 6 months but only put 3000 miles on it and then the engine let go Crying or Very sad In the time i had it, it had 3 windscreens, 2 headlights, all due to stone chips, 3 pair of front tyres 1 pair of rear tyres, rear tyres did 70000 miles Shocked 3 sets of front brake pads, and 2 sets of front discs. 1.8 none turbo diesel.
