England 2005 Range Rover Sport TDV6 HSE Java Black
Overheating range rover sport, advice please

I have a rrs 2.7 tdv6, I was driving it today and noticed the temperature needle was going above the half way point, I then got onto the m25 and put my foot down to get to 70mph and the needle shot straight up and the red light came on. I had to slow down and build speed very very gradually.

When I pulled over I popped the bonnet to see if there was anything that seemed wrong, when the engine is turned off after driving on the near side of the radiator there is a very small amount of bubbling coming out of the edge. Also I have noticed some very small wet patches, (of what seemed to be water) under the car after its been parked up.

I'm going to buy some coolant tomorrow and top it up, hopefully this will prevent the overheating.

Any advice on this issue will be very much appreciated, this is my first range rover and I'm still learning about it.

Thanks

Tried finding the recomended coolant stated in the manual, however I couldn't find it so I'm going to purchase the premium one from Halfords. 2018 SVR

If you can see water coming out of the edge of the radiator there must be a hole in the radiator. Cause of the hole could be internal corrosion, flying stone damage or another example of legendary LR quality control failure. Topping up the lost coolant might get you home but will not fix the problem. You need to urgently have the radiator replaced or professionally re-cored. If you just leave it to get worse you risk losing all the coolant, severely overheating the engine which will lead to seizure and catastrophic damage. This can happen very quickly on a motorway and by the time you notice there is a problem it might be too late. 2008 MY Java Black TDV8 HSE

I think a 2005 range rover on an original radiator is due a failure. Rolling Eyes

Anyway - leaks could also be pipes, connectors that have been working loose and under heat expand and leak

On coolant - you shouldnt mix the anti-freeze/coolant solution - but you can buy a special type that can be mixed with existing coolant.

The colour is a giveaway - first aim for the correct colour - dont then just put any in its as bad as just water but not as much as not putting any in.

Go to the dealer or a real motor factors (not halfrauds) to buy it - it can be bought! Mike
