Off road bits

My Johnson Rods have turned up which will give me an extra 2.5 inch lift, got to wait till next wed as stuck on a tug boat till then. Transmission bash plate on its way, got to wait till mid October for rear diff plate as there has been a manufacturing problem Evil or Very Mad
When bits are on i will post some pics if any one is interested, also think about getting a superchip remap done, got a 4.4 v8, anyone done on with this engine?
Also going to fool vehicle that its hung up and activate extended mode in the suspension as i have never seen how high they go, apparently its much higher than standard off road height. Should be fun. Laughing

There are 2 extended modes after off road height.

Extended mode and super extended - running in them apparently can cause transmission damage - but they go high. Mike

Isn't super extended accessed by getting it to go in to extended mode and then holding the raise button for a specified period of time?

I think the system drops back to normal off road height after only a short period of time to prevent damage to the drivetrain, however.

One thing that puzzles me is that, as the RRS is a D3 underneath, why can't the RRS have the same ground clearance as the D3 in off road mode? Presumably the wishbones are slightly shorter but not so much as to make much of a difference. Presumably the air springs/dampers are sufficiently different to make long term "elevated driving" detrimental to their reliability. It's annoying really - if the RRS could be driven in D3 ride height off road, it would make it even more accomplished... 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

I thought the car put itself in the extra extended mode when it had all wheels off the ground

It does for the first bit 1.5 inches, then you can do the previously mention method to get a bit more, clever stuff!! Range Rover Vogue Classic 3.9 V8 1992

I remember reading that if the car is in off road height and becomes grounded (sensed by load off the wheels and the TC working overtime) then it will automatically extend by a further amount (50mm?). At this point, one can ask for a little bit more (up to a total extra of 75mm?) by holding the raise button.

Never tried it though. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

Correct. You must have your foot on the brake to get the second lift. You can fool it by putting block under the jack up point when in off road height, doors shut, engine running, lower and it will sense an obstruction and raise up. Going to try it soon. I was at LR Eastnor and they proved the myth that a RRS and a Disco cant have the same normal off road height is just that - ill see if i can dig out a photo. Mike

From LR's figures:

RRS:
Ground clearance off-road height: 227mm
Standard ride height: 172mm

D4:

Ground clearance: Up to 310mm (air suspension)
Standard ride height: 185mm

The D4 also has the better approach, break over and departure angles (especially when compared to the WAG version of the RRS).

Where is the myth? I'd dearly love to see how the RRS gets better ground clearance than the D4 - would certainly be a nice little ace up the sleeve for those pub bores telling us how crap the RRS is off road Yawn 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

The sport has exactly the same ground clearance - the suspension when you get past it has the same clearance Mike

When I did my off road day at Luton Hoo, I asked the guy which car was the best off road.
In his opinion, he said he would choose a FFRR, foLlowed but an RRS, which surprised me as I thought he'd say a Disco.
I'd say he was fairly qualified to judge, so must be something in it Thumbs Up ON THE WAY: BMW F21 M140i
