Towing Capability of the Evoque?

OK

I'm looking at purchasing a caravan later in the year (maybe spring next) and my wife has expressed she wishes a convertable for her next motor. (Evoque convertable discounting)

Now this leaves me with the tow vehicle as my car.

I've always pictured us having an Evoque as a 2nd car (with the Sport as the 1st) but now I torn... when I change mine do i stick with the sport or go to the Evoque.

Now I'm looking at 1500kg caravans (which according to LR is within the 85% car/caravan safe weight ratio for the Evoque).

But, with it's shorter wheelbase may effect it's stability under towing conditions.

Has anyone on here towed with their Evoque yet? RRS gone

Laughing Thumbs Up

Put the Evoque details in alongside the mid range Swift I'd be happy with and got "good/satisfactory"

Then put my Sport in against the Delta TL I REALLY want and got Perfect...

I didn't bother putting the Lunar with the Evoque Laughing

I think deep down I'll not be happy in the smaller motor (just yet) RRS gone

Tim in Scotland went from RRS to FFRR to Evoque and I think he highly rates it Thumbs Up

Myself I don't think I could cope with downsizing, the boots just too small

Evoque is 1800kgs tow rated so you're 636 would be over the 85% I recon...

Same as you though..the smaller boot plus the other car being a rag top would probably be a problem! RRS gone

Standard for the 636 is 1650kg on its standard weight plate, I've asked for the increase plate to give me extra payload

You could go 100% as the 85% rule is a guide, but it's a good guide to go on

I would personally keep the sport, it is will be better for the boot space, amazing how much you carry in the boot to keep the van weight down Thumbs Up

Honest question - why do you need to keep the van weight down? The RRS weighs 2.5t and pulls 3.5t. 50kg in the van wouldn't appear to be much of an issue to me as someone who doesn't pull caravans.

Our horse box is plated upto 2.5t which is more than a caravan by some margin I would have thought... 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

The larger vans are more sensitive to nose weight/height than a horsebox.

A few kg's missplaced can transform a relaxing drive into a white knuckle snaking nightmare

Ah, thanks awd, that makes sense I suppose. I thought one was supposed to put a weighing scale under the jockey wheel, check the nose weight and move stuff around in the van as required? I can see how it's easier to chuck stuff in the car boot instead though!

Perhaps that's why so many caravan pullers are so slow - they've loaded them incorrectly and keep scaring themselves if they go above 40mph! Rolling with laughter 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

You want to see the caravans they tow with the RRS/D3/D4 over here, I nearly fell over when my neighbour told me the noseweight of his 3.5t retirement villa. 300kgs Thud Ex-G4 Challenge RRS HSE, BV55 YZE. Subtle shade of orange ! Now registered YZE481 G4RRS in Melbourne.

Rolling with laughter @ Ady.. yes that's solo driving too Mr. Green

In my current "experience, every van likes a slightly different nose weight, so following the recommended values isn't always the best option.

300kgs ouch Mike! RRS gone
