Hi on my10 RRS, bought the connecting cable to the iphone that goes into the centre arm rest

Just bought a brodit mount to mount the phone on the dash... As it's handy to see, rather than in glove box etc... Is there a suitable extension to the cable in the centre arm rest?? Can I use the USB port in the centre arm rest? But cables I gave don't seem to charge/work? Is there a special LR one or is the USB port just for a music memory stick? Want to find away of connecting the phone to the RRS but have it on the dash
