How to make your warranty VOID?

He's a question. Under what circumstances would you be able to do engine tuning, mods to your car etc and not make the warranty Void? Question
Do Land Rover have a list of approved modifications that they consider okay for you to do without invalidating your warranty? Question Question

If tuning work was done to the engine and a differential failed...can Land Rover blame the diff failure on the extra power created by the engine tuning? Question

A friend of mine had some tuning work done to his car by a company recommended to him by the Land Rover Main Dealer salesman. The engine work was done and a diff failure ensued...the LR salesman has now told my friend that his warranty is now void because the cars been modified.

Did i explain that clearly? Ra-Ro Sport Super Dooper Charged.

I would guess so as you've modified the car from standard. The fact that it's the diff that's gone and you've modified the engine I think will mean they would argue that the diff wasn't designed to take that amount of torque. An example is I put 22" alloys on my car,the ball joint went, warranty claim denied as part that failed wasn't designed to take the forces of the larger wheel. Big Cry

If friend has written advice to use the other company for some tuning work then he might be able to argue that he took it to be official advice.

If the advice was just verbal then I'd say LR aren't going to budge.

I would be talking to the dealer principal, I think, and asking him why his staff are advising thrid party work that then voids the warranty. If nothing else, it might get the saleman told not to do it to someone else too.

The other thought that comes to me: is there a relationship between the saleman and the tuner? Are they friends, for example? I would be asking the principal this too. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

Salesmen are just that, most of them don't have a clue about the product they sell. land rover don't approve ANY modifications to vehicles other than what they fit themselves. the salesman was out of order telling your mate it was ok to do so but unless your mate has it in writing from the salesman then he hasn't a leg to stand on i'm affraid Big Cry

When Mr Jim recently took her FL 2 to 'Marshall's of Bedford' for a 1st year service she was informed by the service manager that the upgraded headlight bulbs and can-bus LED side light bulbs could invalidate a claim for any electrical problems under the Land Rover warranty! Shocked

She came home and immediately gave me rollicking for :censored:ing about with her car! Rolling Eyes LOL

There are many things at play here.

There is a level of reasonableness in the UK linked closely to what is fit for purpose. This mainly relates to things designed to fit onto standard stuff manufactured in the same way, so a roof rack, tow ball, bulbs etc.

Where you have got to (ignoring for a minute the specific guidelines to dealers 2-3yrs ago about remaps automatically voiding the warranty for engine and drive train), is where you add something new/different that is fundamentally not standard eg: a remap, a different performance brake system or a door hinge kit to give a different opening profile... thats not reasonable, nor is it anywhere near what it was designed to do therefore any linked damage will be outside of your warranty

So a quick example:
- Your car is designed to have a roof rack, having a none LR one that functions the same has no link to your warranty
- Having a remap, which LR never designed the car to have/tested the car to have - voids the warranty elements linked to it. Mike
