Dog Insurance

As Off Topic as most of my posts............

Just got a new addition to the household (due 14th May), French Bulldog.

Any Dog owners - what's the best pet insurance policy out there, don't mind paying a decent premium as I want an all singing all dancing policy........

A colleague has a dog that has had the same operation twice (@ £4,000 a time) and the insurance would only cover it once, this is the sort of thing I want to avoid!

Many thanks
Thumbs Up

Jonny I've just rescued an abused terrier, he was thrown from a car and has lost his front leg.

The insurance they offered me was from Petplan and they have changed their policy, the gold membership is supposed to be the best, there is no limited to for claims up to 7k and that is 7k every year.

Maybe give them a try, he tried hard to sell it to me but unfortunately I didn't insure him as my last two girls lived until they were over 14 yrs. I never insured them and they only cost me about 2/3k over all those years (lucky I suposse).

My answer would be get the premium and just put it away each month just in case. My boy is insured on my household insurance for liability.

Some people are sick beyond reason!

Why do that? If you don't want a dog take it to a shelter don't throw it out of the car!!

Will read up on petplan gold, cheers Mis.

Jonny,
I agree,I had 2 German Shorthaired Pointers, down to just 1 now when the old one passed.
Had Petplan for years and the premiums just went up and up.
I gave in in the end and saved the cost, cancelled the insurance and just pay the vet cash as and when, saved a fortune.
Never gave them boosters after their initial inocculations, little doubt in my mind that they cause most of the canine cancers, both of mine lived to 13 years + fit as fiddles.

I had pet plan in the UK for both Weimeraners, totally worth it in terms of covering even the minor ailments and problems..
then again Weimeraners are thick as.. so no doubt it was the breed that lead me to insure them
as they always got into so much strife Another Pommie Bar Steward down under

to avoid your friend situation, you need to find out their stance on pre-existing conditions and what they would do once the dog has suffered from it.

My brother dog developed epilepsy quite late on, they could claim and claim for the £100's of meds, scans and tests they needed to do to find out why and what he would need to control, but even though they are with the same insurance company and they covered everything, they have maxed out on the total cost they could claim for a single condition which was some thing like £7000.

Georgeous rotties! A neighbour has one called daisy, a real gentle thing it is and puts up with our cocker trying to get her to chase him! Guess, as with any dog, it's how you bring them up!
Will need to check my insurance now, as we went with tesco @ £15/month
