United Kingdom 2008 Range Rover Sport TDV8 HSE Java Black

Car is at land rover dealer the starting problem was diagnosed as a broken solanoid and having a new starter motor fitted. The hdc system fault has also been looked at. They have fitted a new set of land rover modified brake bulbs and a new foot brake switch.

It's being dropped off on Tuesday so will report back if this problem has been fixed

Cheers

United Kingdom 2008 Range Rover Sport TDV8 HSE Java Black

Hi, all

Just though I would update the post. in case anyone else has the same problem.

The Start motor was changes and the click when you turn the key has gone and no further starting problems so it was the starter motor at fault.

as I side issue on this post The HDC fault and HDC going off line. They changed the rear brake and side light bulbs and that fault has gone to.

so all in all very happy with the fix

thanks

Steve

Thanks for letting us know.

My 2010 TDV8 suffers from the very same problem and is booked to go into the dealers next week. So no need for them to do extensive tests, I'll just tell them to exchnage to Starter motor! Very Happy SOMETIMES YOU'RE THE BUG AND SOMETIMES YOU'RE THE WINDSHIELD

Had a similar issue with mine which is still not resolved. Had two new (genuine lr ones) started motors and still get an occasional non start click. Seems worse when damp outside....

Starter motors Sad - The first one lasted 3years and 30K, its replacement 6 months, just had that replaced after a further 15 months - same symptoms every time - just a click from the starter solenoid, then starts OK next time.

Still waiting for the alternator to go as it's an 07MY and it's a common failure. Both previous starters and the alternator were made by Denso in Japan. Didn't see if the latest starter was another Denso.

I had the starter replaced earlier this year because of the "click". The new one has recently started doing it too. It's booked in for Friday. Presumably another new starter will be going in. My alternator has also been replaced in the last year, as has the battery. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

I said last November

Four months later and now that 3rd replacement has started failing with exactly the same symptoms! All genuine LR parts.

Anyone else still suffering starter motor failures on TdV8s?

Here we go yet again.

The fourth genuine LR starter fitted last April has begun to show exactly the same failure symptoms as the previous three replacements. Sometimes just a click from the starter solenoid at first turn of the key, then starts OK next time, other times a perfectly normal start.
