your handbrake will have been on, so i assume that will have helped

if its the same design as a Freelander gear box, when you put it in Park it uses a pawl lock, to hold the car

http://www.freel2.com/gallery/albums/userpics/11383/park_lock.pdf

Might be worth checking the pins etc

I think the car will be damaged on the body work to be pushed back 2ft, so might as well have the auto box looked at whilst your claiming off the others insurance

Did you get the other drivers details or was it a hit & run job?

Hope there's not too much damage, but agree with Beancounter that it must have been a hefty whack to move the RRS 2ft backwards with the handbrake on! Shocked 2013 Discovery HSE Luxury - 3.0 SDV6 - Santorini Black

Dmage 'looks' cosmetic.
The girl who's car it was works in the office block next door to mine.
She left her car at the top of a slope, a collegue came in ten minutes later to tell her the car had moved.
Obviously not in gear and the hand brake not fully applied.
Thought an A3 would have bounced off mine Laughing
Car being collected later so will insist on full check before i accept it back.

Nik.

Is this a VAG common thing, I have heard of both a Golf Mk5 and A3 having a similar incident before.
One was my neighbor, he returned home after a reasonable drive, pulled the handbrake and went indoors. I then had to knock on his door and tell him his car was in the road. When we went out, handbrake was indeed applied, discs had obviously contracted had the effect of releasing the handbrake. Shocked ON THE WAY: BMW F21 M140i

This was a problem on the jelly mould shaped Granadas. One of the early cars fitted with all round discs and a caliper based handbrake.

If you put the handbrake on when the discs were hot they would then cool and release the handbrake.

Hey this happened to my electrician, he had just come off the motorway 5 minute drive o my house, parked on a hill handbrake on but not left in gear, i was stood outside with him talking then i noticed his van rolling backwards, so i calmly said to him, where is your van going Laughing at this point he turned around to see his van rolling down the road, ive never seen anyone run so fast and clear a six foot gate as quick as he did Laughing he was lucky it didn't hit anything or anything hit his van, it travalled approx 50 yards before he managed to get in it and stop it all be it accross a junction, i saw the funny side of it but he didn't Laughing Volkswagen transporter. Thumbs Up
