I haven't even bought my RRS yet, I was just wondering why you mentioned it, after all a specialist engine tuner should be able to work with a variety of engines, at the end of the day an engine is an engine and they all work in the same way.

They do Thumbs Up

But there is nothing wrong with Research & Development either Thumbs Up

and R & D on the actual engine you modifying is even better still Thumbs Up

Pete has been modifying the TDV6 and TDV8 for years, his personal experience on what works and what doesn't has to be worth something.
Remember his maps are not the most powerful, nor have the most torque, but are widely regarded as the most drivable..so that speaks volumes RRS gone

You say the most driveable, what's different from his maps to other tuners maps?

I'm not just asking questions for the sake of it, I am genuinely interested. Lol

The way the torque and the power come in Thumbs Up

ie: You can have shed loads of power, but if it does not come in till 4k it's not much good..

Pete's worked at getting the best combination of power/torque/reliablilty and responsiveness..

There are maps out there quoting +50bhp & +200lbs over standard, and I'm sure BAS could produce such a map... but he choises not to...and you got to ask yourself why RRS gone

If you are genuinely intrested, then give pete a ring and he will share his expert advice with you and perhaps help you understand a bit more where we are coming from. Thumbs Up

two questions...

Would you remap a 90k RRS 2.7 HSE, is it wise or is the engine fragile?
Does anyone know a good contact in South Manchester who can do this properly?

I live in Manchester and call Andy at UK Remaps and mention my name. He's a great guy and will talk it through with you. Btw £400 cash and he'll come to you.

HTML link in my post above. TDV8 HSE, Remap (+45 BHP + 100 Nm), Taylored sport exhaust system by Pipe Werx

Thanks Sherlock,

I remapped a Chrylser 300c two years ago for £150, i think it was a generic map, not sure, seemed to work well...... I am sceptical about maps etc, would like to here from some 2.7 RRS users who have had this done, especially on higher mileage units.

Cheers guys,

Yes absolutely. In fact I got my brother to drive before and after as he would not have a vested interest to have a positive opinion. He absolutely noticed it.

It's. It the BHP that you notice but the torque is so improved which shows in acceleration and pick up. TDV8 HSE, Remap (+45 BHP + 100 Nm), Taylored sport exhaust system by Pipe Werx

The key issue is that torque is improved across the rev range so the power is also improved as a by product. Headline power is nice if you're driving a racing car but it's overall torque improvements that make a road car more responsive and improve overall driveablility.

Don't forget that power is proportional to torque and revs. You don't increase power unless you also increase torque or revs. In a vehicle like the RRS, that means torque has to be improved to make meaningful improvements in power. And torque is gooooooooood in a road car Thumbs Up

It's one of the reasons I like my torque-laden TDV8... 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

Wonder why there is a dearth of dyno plots whenever this subject is discussed on this site? Quoting two abstract figs like +45bhp and +100n/m really means nothing without understanding the full picture as to how these are delivered across the rev range.

I totally agree with you but the two figures just give a simple description. As with my dyno charts I am keen to see the shape of the curve, where and when it flattens, where and if it has bumps and jumps in the smooth profile etc TDV8 HSE, Remap (+45 BHP + 100 Nm), Taylored sport exhaust system by Pipe Werx
