England 2012 Range Rover Sport Supercharged Autobiography Orkney Grey
New RRS

Hello. I'm glad I found this forum.

I'm guessing this is a fairly common question. I need to replace my car and I'm thinking of getting the RRS. I have been told by some people that they are notoriously unreliable and prone to breaking down for a variety of electrical/mechanical reasons. However, I can't say I've ever seen one waiting for RAC/AA assistance. A friend told me that there had been reliability issues but much of these have been resolved. I guess my main question is as follows:

I'm not particularly interested in resale values as I tend to keep cars for 10+ years which is why I want to make sure I buy the right one. I'm leaning towards the supercharged HSE simply because I understand that the SDV6 is a new engine. Should I be considering the diesel and is there any advice/warnings you would offer re either the supercharged or diesel?

Thanks

Welcome Zango - Personally I would go for the diesel, I note you're in London and TBH the diesel's running costs are so much less but then this might not be an issue with you. The SC is great but do you need the power? Test drive both and make your mind up then but both engines are good.

If you keep your car for 10 years + a RRS might be expensive all depending on how you look after it. I would obviously take out extended warranty after 3 years. As for reliability you never know - like any car you could buy a lemon but the chances are low.

Others no doubt will give you some more advise. Thumbs Up 2005 Zambezi TDV6 - Gone but not forgotten

I'm sure you will get a lot of technical advice from the esteemed and knowledgable members here....
For my part.... and not wanting to state the obvious.... the first thing to consider is your annual mileage and fuel bill....
I have a SDV6 and have been enormously impressed with it.... the power and torque is more than adequate... pokey even... and efficient even when driven hard ...The 8 speed gearbox (not avail on s/c) is seemless...
Most important of all... and I know it's not exactly a long term test... but 4 months on and 7k on the clock and no faults to report...
I also have to say that if I didn't have a sports car as well and my mileage wasn't up to 30k pa and I would have gone S/C... 2014.5 SDV6 AB Dynamic ... Fuji /Santorini Pan roof and 22's

if you are planning to keep for 10+ years then the biggest consideration will be the air suspension (same for a lot of modern cars). Can get very expensive to replace/maintain.

2008 Range Rover Sport TDV8 HSE Santorini Black

Why not get one of the last TDV8s built? I have a 2008 model and whilst you could go for a newer one th engine is regarded as the best diesel ever built and will last for ever.

I have had a replacement suspension compressor fitted this week under warranty, not because it failed but because it looked like someone used a trolley jack on it to lift the 2.6 tome car Big Cry Big Cry It costed £600 and should last 10 yrs minimum TDV8 HSE, Remap (+45 BHP + 100 Nm), Taylored sport exhaust system by Pipe Werx
