Windows misting up on cold days

The last 3-4 days when we have had cold mornings I have had problems with the inside of the windows misting up after a couple of miles. Have tried using the recirc and also running with the aircon on minimum setting for 20 minutes - brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr - which clears it but as soon as I switch back to a bit of warm air I get misted rear side windows. Have tried pressing the recirc button and then re-pressing it and it definately is working.

Are there any vents in the tailgate area of the RRS that might have stuck open/closed, which was a cause of misting up in a Freelander 1 I had? The car has sat for a while with only a monthly run. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Tm try this.
Turn off ac heating on full, let fresh air circulate!! Put fan on full and let air circulate through all vents plus, switch on rear heated screen. After approx5-6 min t should clear. The ac when turned off and heat arises from the vent causes this effect. leave ac off. If u must use ac then use the cold climate pack prog button and put heat on as u require hope this helps. It has done for me Thumbs Up
THE AC ACTS AS A DEHUMIDIFIER, just keep temp on high and ul get warm air clean windscreen!!! Thumbs Up

If you don't solve the problem and still want to know where the cabin air extract vents are, remove the rear light clusters and there they are. Very unlikely they would be stuck. Nothing blocking the grills in the top of the luggage area which feeds the air to these is there?

thanks guys, the car is now more than 2 winters old and I have never had this problem before, I always leave the aircon on even in winter and run it as "climate" control. I ran my last RRS the same way without problems too. Range_lover will try your method in the morning. Only think I can think of is that I have a damp carpet or something. Car has sat almost unused for 3 months, only 2 short drives in that time. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

I realise this is an old thread, was the problem ever resolved?

I have a brand new MY12 HSE.

My previous MY07 HSE was simply left on "AUTO" and "A/C" and happily coped on its own with all temperatures and misting etc. As has been stated, Aircon has a de-humidifying action and therefore should not mist up.

Yesterday my new MY12 kept misting up badly and I had to take specific actions (ie. turn on the front/rear heated screens). The aircon has the same settings of Auto and A/C and I would have thought these should have coped ok.

The only other possible factor is that it has done less than 100 miles and yesterday was a strange weather day (Sudden heavy sleet) (perhaps as its so new some things have not dried out from the build process?)

Martin,
Maybe a silly question, but did you have the external air setting, or was it on recirculation, as the latter will generally cause the inside to fog up.
If you did have it on outside airflow, I'd possibly get it checked out as I run mine on 'Auto' and 'A/C' and have never had any fogging issue at all Confused ON THE WAY: BMW F21 M140i

It was definitely re-circulation off.

However it was interesting to see that when you turn it onto maximum cooling that it forces re-circulation on, which shows they have played with the programming since my last RRS. 2016 RRS 4.4 TDV8 Autobiography Dynamic in Montalcino Red and Stealth Kit

I've not noticed that as I've always just set the temp and had Auto on.
Will try it tonight/tomorrow, just to confirm that its the same of yours if you want? ON THE WAY: BMW F21 M140i
