I've used Colinite 476 on my car and it brings it up a treat. I did use Mer for many years, but now I'm converted.

De tar after washing, and when it's relatively dry so as not to water product down too much, lower doors, rear bumper, just behind wheel arches will attract more tar, but I would check everywhere else too

All the Autoglym stuff you mention is fine.

Autoglym Ultra Deep Shine is also pretty good on dark cars.
