Hey all, i know that supermarkets use a lesser grade of petrol and a lot of cars run like a bag of nails after using there standard unleaded, but has any one had any issues with supemarket diesel ????

No issues as such, but both the TDv8's I ran were more economical and ran more smoothly on branded regular diesel than on supermarket diesel, my Evoque also prefers branded diesel to supermarket diesel. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

There is no difference, refiners sell to a number of customers, be they supermarkets or large multinationals.

Clearly there will be a difference between grades, eg 95 and 98 octane, or city and ultra diesels, but not within the same products.

I've never had any problems with supermarket fuel and have run all my cars on them. If I do have a spate of using a brand name fuel, I've never noticed any difference  ON THE WAY: BMW F21 M140i

The fuel itself is exactly the same, the mixture of additives isn't, so I was told by a person who works in the refinery business

Possibly true Nick, Ive worked for refineing and exploration oil co's and I was always lead to believe that the differences were urban myths.
I think if there were any major differences in quality, the bigger branded companies would cite that in their advertising, eg in tests we're better than xxxx, but they don't, so presumably there's little or no evidence to back up the claims.

The only reason supermarkets sell fuel cheaper is it's a slight loss (maybe little margin) leader and they can offset against groceries revenues. The Tesco near us has pretty much always got a 5-10p off per litre offer on, but the shop and petrol station are always rammed, fantastic business model  ON THE WAY: BMW F21 M140i

I just use tesco fuel myself, get points and spend them on booze when I have built up enough

I filled up with BP Advance on the way down to Bristol last weekend at a service station. Car went like a rocket and the average MPG went up by 8! SDV6 HSE Sport2 - Santorini Black, Ebony Interior, Pano Roof, Things I haven't found yet!

TDV6 HSE, Java Black, Black Premium Leather, Privacy, LR Side Steps, Smoked Side Repeaters, SC Vents and lots of toys!

Tastes exactly the same to me and gets you just as p d just as quick as normal forecourt stuff  Have i got the busted controller?!?!!?

The only differance can be in differant areas it all depends on where it is refined.

it's all a load of and I challenge anyone to tell the difference in a blind test

the problem they have is that 'mistakes' are more widely publicised which adds to the myth that they use a lower quality fuel. Last I checked Esso make and sell Tesco fuel, for example.

p.s.
there is another issue that effects all diesel, supermarket or not, and that's the bio element - that used to make a 2003 Defender I owned smoke like a bastard at cold start ============

It always makes me smile when I see delivery tankers leaving the refinery. Same fuel with different vehicles.
Next time you see a white unmarked tanker on the road, follow it and it will be either on it's way or having left a Supermarket following a delivery.

Although, during the fuel demos a few years back, I did see a marked BP Tanker delivering to Sainsburys.
