Hi guys

New on here, great site and community I see I have a 2010 Autobiog Supercharged from new, but very miffed about one thing.. The Oil level! Yes I know there is no dipstick and need to rely on the 'service' menu on the dash, however when I flick into that menu it says oil level not available. Its recently been into Lookers Park Royal for something else and Rob from the service dept says its true, there is no oil 'check' for the owner to do?

Is this gospel? very confused that a 5 litre supercharged engine doesnt have a basic maintenance safeguard like check oil levels!

If you read the user manual, in order to check the engine oil level you need to have the vehicle at operating temperature, standing for 10 minutes on a perfectly level surface after switching the engine off.

I noticed that mine allows me to check the oil in the morning, about 10 hours or more after last operation, but in your country it is doubtful that your garage will be at 25 degC in the am..

this is a pain in the ass feature, in my opinion, because A) most filling stations aren't perfectly level, and B) it takes less than 5 minutes to fill up, so if you wanna do this as you fill up, you have to find a service station with a level forecourt that sells pies.....

A question for you and other 2010 SC owners - every time I check my oil level it is at 50%, which is OK according to the manual. It just never seems to vary, which means either the car is using zero oil (unlikely) or the computer is lying to me (highly believable). What is your experience?

Thats the problem.. I havent had an oil readin yet.. no matter if I let the car run and rest for 10 mins for the oil to settle, the feature on my dash still will say 'Not available' I can see the 'oil meter' but for the reading itself it doesnt show

Weird! Are you sure the car is standing on level ground when you try do a reading? If there is a bit of tilt or roll it don't work

Yeah its real flat the ground.. no inclines.. I reported this to Lookers but seems they didnt do anything about it...

Its also a stupid way of checking the oil, as it requires you starting and running the engine in order to do it. Starting and running an engine that has a low oil level is not clever in the first place. To make that the way to check for low oil is just daft imho. RRS 3.0D HSE 11MY - Fuji White, a few extras.
