Removal of RRS mirror caps '98 model.

I'm having some paint done on the bodywork and wish to colour code the mirrors whilst the paint is 'in the gun' so to speak,, can someone tell me how to remove the backs of the mirrors as unlike the 2010 model the top half does not remove?
